Next to the Casino de Hull, Hilton has a brand spanking (2 months) new property with a commanding view of the Ottawa area and a natural river valley and small lake.

Executive floor rooms are spacious and all have great views, as does the Executive Club. Marble floors in entry and bathroom (which is about as big as my kitchen at home); marble sink, huge open sided bathtub and cavernous shower enclosure complete with bench. Faux gold fixtures.

Upgrade without hassle; delivered a huge fruit basket to the room with a pineapple, apples, oranges, kiwi fruit, pears, bananas etc.

Honor bar in Executive Club; serve canapes from 5-7 PM, french pastries at 11 PM and a quasi continental breakfast starting at 6:30 AM-11 AM, yougurt, cheese including camembert and swis, a FULL variety of fresh and canned fruits, bagels, pastries, cereals.

Several restaurants. Free parking and a one minute walk to the Casino.

Current value rates for about $80 US per night!

Does anyone have any experience with this property? Looking to spend 4 nights with my family (two children under the age of 5) in the Ottawa area.

As gold was given upgraded room, but not in the exec floor - They claimed it was full. We had use of the executive lounge -Nice snacks. etc. Honor Bar. Great view especially at night.

Definitely one of the most upscale Hiltons.

The casino is right next door.

Another hotel to consider if traveling with family: Delta Ottawa. They have an indoor water slide. Most rooms also have a little kitchen if I remember. Right downtown.

Beautiful hotel. However, no "family" activities within the vicinity. It's also not that close to Ottawa. That is, you can't just walk there. As a gold, I've always been given a room on the exec floor. Breakfast and dinner canapes are so-so.

Another family hotel to consider is the Residence Inn. They've got 1 and 2 bedroom suites, free breakfast, free snacks at dinnertime, and have a larger dinner on Wednesdays. The location is also quite good.

They seem to have baby sitting and a few other children focused services. I booked a king suite for 5 nights which should give us access to the exec floor lounge. Based on your suggestion I'll look at the delta as well. How close to the byward market is this hotel?

A search for Hull would have give you several references. However, the town was called Hull until 3 years ago, now it's Gatineau...Here they are

Took a look at the previous threads, I like what I read, it sure reads like both you and BB like this hotel! Wonder if they still have the bountiful fruit baskets?

Sorry, no fruit basket lately that I received.

See my recent trip report on this hotel:

I'd give it a big thumbs up! ^

About a 10 minute walk, either on Sparks st (pedestrian) or on Wellington (right in front of parliament).

Closer to the market would be the Chateau Laurier or the Westin (awesome views at both if you get a good room) or Sofitel (not so nice, was getting renovated when I visited though). I would avoid the Sheraton (run down). The Marriott is between the Market and the Delta and has a nice big pool and a few mini-golf holes (haven't been there in 1 1/2 year though).

As Braindrain mentioned, the Casino is the only close attraction to the Hilton. Not a big deal if you have a car: downtown is a 5 minute drive.

One of the nicest hotels in Ottawa: the Brookstreet. Too bad it's out in Kanata, a 25 minute drive from downtown.

I just looked at the Residence Inn on a map: it's about same distance from the market as the Marriott (South of it instead of West), a 5 minute walk.

Which month are you going?

In reality, the Residence Inn is much closer than the Marriott. A big, big ^ for the Westin but it's a little on the expensive side. The Chateau Laurier is a very old hotel with tiny rooms and not worth staying unless you get a "suite".

Another hotel to consider is the Lord Elgin, on Elgin St (where else?).

I have stayed at Hilton Lac Leamy a few times (paid $125 Fed Gvt rate...) and was always upgraded to the exec floor.
They (or the Casino) provide free shuttle to Ottawa and museums. So you might not need to take your car.

This is my best HH property so far, I have been to about 60 different one. The employees are well spirited and friendly.

Just spent 3 nights at this wonderful hotel. The staff was very good, restaurants were excellent, free parking (although parking spots were very narrow). We stayed in the 1 bdrm suite on the 11th - very nice view of grounds and Parliament buildings. In door, out door swimming pools were great, the kids (aged 2 and 4) loved them.

The lounge was just OK compared to Toronto's new lounge. Breakfast was continental (no hard boiled eggs) and when they ran out of fruit or other items they were not replaced. During the day when water, pop or coffee was depleted the staff did not replenish until the next 'serving' i.e. o’hourvers or cocktails. The bar was an honour bar with a pretty good selection.

Overall a great stay and would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the Ottawa - Hull area.

Good to see you had a good experience. As a HH Gold, I'm surprised they didn't stick you on the Exec floors (17, 18, 19). The rooms are a touch larger. Perhaps it was a full house?

IIRC EXEC floors are 18, 19 and 20 (not that it's really that important). They did not offer an upgrade to a suite on the exec floor as I already had a suite (paid for) on the 11th.

The great thing about this hotel is that I doubt there is a bad view from any room in the house.

I couldn't say enough positive things about my stay there, so glad to hear others have had good experiences too. :)

For me and Mrs. CL's 5th anniversary. Interesting to note that they have discontinued check-in on the exec floor, some two years ago according to front desk staff. Thankfully we arrived just before the bus load of casino goers.

The rooms are the same as they were five years ago, but do not appear to have aged any. Service was great and they remembered that we stayed there on our wedding day as we had a nice note and a bottle of red-wine from the hotel staff waiting for us.

It is still one of my favourite hotels.

As a mother of two I would recommend this hotel in a heartbeat. So long as you have a car, the location is not a problem. The pool is fabulous, indoor/outdoor heated, clean, nice pool toys. Head over to the Children's museum at the Canadain Civilization Museum., 5 mins away, on the Gatineau side. depending on when you are visiting, there is a lake outside with skating.. Free bike rentals in fair weather Your kids will LOVE it!
We are from the Ottawa are and this is our top pick hands down.

No, it's usually not. There's a problem booking a weekend stay at this hotel using Hilton website. If you don't find any availability, go to the Hotel information page and enter your dates from there. You often find availability using this method. I've noticed that problem to Hilton before but they have never fixed it.
