Basically, it takes a credit card application (pay the annual fee) and a $400 ticket to Europe to make US Silver.... the total should come out to less than $500! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

The offer appears to have been yanked from the website for now. However, despite the title, do you think it is possible that if you bought a $400 ticket on a 1000 mile flight would get you 1200 (3*400) miles, not 3000 miles? Today "double miles" on tickets for a $400 ticket is 800 miles.

AFAIK, any US flight gets you full mileage, no matter what you paid for the ticket.
So ... a $400 ticket to BUF-PHL-LGW for instance (which I just made) is 8128 miles for the r/t. Triple miles is 24,384 miles. And they count toward status.
Plus, you have the 10,000 from the card bonus, and (maybe) 1000 miles for booking on line, and you're in pretty good shape; in fact, you're just under 5K away from an off-peak award to Europe.

I did not get the email either, but son of L4P did. He is a US4 so maybe it was targeted to those folks without status.
Just about every other airline has got promos going on but it seems that BBB is still on vacation or he believes he is going to make the revenue up on all those new club fees.

Has anyone successfully registered for this promotion yet?
I just priced out one routing that would go PHL-LAX-CLT-LGW-CLT-LAX-PHL over a weekend in February (depart Thursday to LAX, arrive in London Saturday AM, depart for LAX on Sunday, return to PHL on Monday) that ticketed to $805.25RT in Q class but equalled 17,020 actual miles.
Granted this isn't as cheap as doing back to back mid-week depatures to London from a PHL or CLT hub (for like $400RT), BUT this has the advantage of fewer non-productive days out of the office.
3x miles would mean for ~$800 you could earn Gold status (51,060 tier miles) and with the 10,000 mile bonus and miles for the ticket you'd earn 60K miles.
Sign me up! ;-)

I called the DM service center yesterday afternoon to ask if I could couple this offer with the 10K coach/20K Envoy to Europe offer. After about 10 minutes on hold she still did not know the answer, so I asked her to e-mail me later when she found out. It has not yet happened. I like the idea of taking one trip to Europe and paying the CC annual fee to get Silver status for about $600, plus enough miles to get another off-peak award trip to Europe later.

My gut tells me the promo was written wrong and its gonna be triple purchase miles, not triple flight miles (ie a $500 ticket to europe will give you 1500, not 25000, miles per R/T). Still nice but not ridiculously nice.

Perhaps I was misinformed when I asked the chairmans desk, but I was told it was targeted, and further they wanted to check to see if my acct number had been registered for the promotion or not (they seemed to be doing this as the typical good service the CP desk gives to prevent problems later).
I'd be wary of getting the VISA card without knowing you were targeted/registered given recent history of targeting, etc.

Some selected text of my first email:
"Hello. I learned of a promotion for new Visa card applicants whereby triple flight miles are awarded from now until June 30th. I already have a DM Visa card, but was considering having my wife obtain one. Can you provide information on this promotion and also let me know if there is any sort of promo code that needs to be used when applying?"
Their reply:
"In response to your email; could you tell us a little more about the promotion in question; What dates do the promotion consist of and does the promtion have a bonus request number to enroll for the promotion? Usually when there is a promotion concerning the Visa card, you will receive triple miles for the purchases from the charges on the Visa card and not mileage for flights flown."
Text from my second email, which also included a copy and paste of the email found here:
"Hello. I have copied and pasted the email that a friend sent me. I don't know if my wife received it or not; for some reason she cannot receive any emails from US via her main email account. The way I read the promotion, it isn't on purchases but rather on miles flown. Is that correct?"
Their reply:
"In order to receive the triple miles promotion, it has to be a new account and based on tickets purchased using your Bank of America visa, you will receive triple miles flown."
I will reply back and inquire as to whether it was targeted. Based on this correspodence, my wife obtained the card though.

Feb 5, 04, 7:24 pm
I called BofA a few days ago and told them to cancel my DM credit card.
History: Last fall while travelling through PHL and CLT I signed up (3 times) for a DM credit card. Late December I got the first statement (which included the yearly fee). In the same letter (or one that arrived a week earlier or later) I got a letter stating that they needed more information before they could either send me the credit card or approve the application.
They needed my SSN. After 2 more monthly statements (where the interest was piling up) I phoned them. Told them since I don't have the card, they should cancel the card. They did.
At the time I signed up I thought US was going to be around for a while and the perks of the card might be worth while - better than my current card (CIBC AeroPlan Visa). But since I'm Canadian, there seems to be no way to actually get a DM card. Now that US is probably going under, the DM card is irrelevant.
Oh - and sorry US. I'm flying to AMS later this month - on KLM. Who needs the hassles of US customs.

I applied for the card and got it in the mail. However, I decided to email USAir to make sure that I would recieve the triple status miles and was told that this offer is open to base members and not preferred members. Since I am already gold, they said that I could not use this promo.
It seems that everyone here is getting a different answer. I may just go ahead and activate the card for the 10,000 miles and then buy a ticket to Europe. At worst, I would get the Europe/Germany bonus, and at best I would get triple status miles.

I know this was always a use at your own risk opportunity. My wife applied for, got and used the card as per the terms of the original promotion. Now is being told she doesn't qualify.
I'd like a name and addy of someone to whom I can escalate this aside from the 'contact dividend miles' link. I have emails from DM saying it would be fine. I intend to either:
1. Get my wife the miles she's earned.
2. Get my US to give us cash for the card and compensation for taking flights we otherwise wouldn't have.
3. Get her registered for the second/new round of this.

What reason did they give your wife as to why she doesn't qualify?

Cant speak for past promos, but I recently signed up for the BoA card (because of this promo) and my 3x preferred miles posted along with the flights (ie 3 days after the trip).
I was assuming they wouldnt post until the next BoA "miles for purchases" posting, but it came automatically with the trips.
this makes me wonder, given the multiple promos, whether the 3x postings will continue through end of August instead of end of June (I never signed up for a promo - it just worked).

Does that mean you didn't actually have to register for the 3x bonus? Were you targeted for the offer which was originally mailed out (through June)? Or did you just sign up for the card through the US web site (where the offer seems to be through August 31)?
I recently signed up for a second card (have already had one for years) through the web (and now received the approval - card to follow). I had registered for the promotion on the web (not targeted for the earlier version) and wonder if the whole thing is going to work at all - which matters when making ticket decisions for the next 5 months!!!

My wife was targetted for the 3x BOA card signup and she didn't do anything but apply for the card and enter her DM number to attach to the card and has received the bonus with no problem. The bonus posts when the regular flight miles post and it shows up in the preferred year to date line. Works like a charm so far.

I dont think I registered online. I think I had already received my card when the promo codes showed up here on FT.
Note I was told by the CP email address that it was not necessary to be targeted or to register - told 'it would just work' - and it did.

I got the card in early Feb. I bought a ticket to Spain with the card in mid-Feb. I did not get the bonus miles. I called USAir. The agent could not have cared less. She told me that the miles would likely post after I pay my credit card bill (I told her that she was wrong, as many here say that they post with the flight miles). I called USAir back to try to get a real agent. This one was at least very nice and told me that she would email Bank of America about it. I know I have to call USAir back because that email (if sent) will do no good.
Then, last week I bought a DCA-BOS e-saver ticket with the card. I ended up not flying, but I did check in online for the outbound flight. I just checked my account and to my surprise I had received the flight miles PLUS the triple status miles for that 500 miles segment. So, even though USAir seems to have some problems with their check in service, the promo is now working for me. I just need to find a way to get the extra 18,000 status miles that I am owed for the DCA-PHL-MAD-PHL-DCA ticket I bought last month.

A (cough, cough) friend of mine has the card, but didnt use it to purchase a recent trip (because he did not have possesion of said card yet). He was automatically given the triple miles nonetheless, very surprised. Happen to anyone else?

I presume that they are not either purposefully or accidentally giving the CP 100% bonus on the triple miles, but rather, only the flight miles.
This could prove way too tempting.

Countin -
If only it worked that way :)
The US system is consistent in this regard. Everything revolves around the base miles for each flight/segment... If you have a flight thats 600 miles, you get 600 base status miles for that trip. Any SP, GP, or CP bonus on top of that is just a multiple of that (and is regular miles). Likewise, any preferred mile bonus is a multiple of those base miles (500 minimum).
So basically the system looks for those base miles and then computes individual other bonuses based on that.

I got an e-mail from the Dividend Miles service center (a week after I sent it!) stating that the promotion is only good until the end of June. Also, I saw several flyers taped to that the table at PIT where they hawk the DM Visa cards that said the promotion was good only until the end of June.

I already have the card. I would have flown a lot had I gotten this promo. Basically, they need a good promo to get me to fly them. UA and AA gave great promos to all of their customers. Why in the world would I fly US when those two give me better deals and better service?

I signed up for the deal. Not sure how this deal works. By my calculations:
920 + 119 + 814 = 1853 * 3 = 5559. I think the 6,971 is for purchases. 1853 * 2 = 3,706. Is the 3,759 the miles for the promotion (triple miles via the normal miles + double miles)? If so, I don't think it registered as flight miles (unless that happens later).

You spent $1873 on the US Airways plane tickets using your card...that's what the double is. Those are not status miles.
Someone said that the triple miles show up as "TRIPLE DM VISA BONUS MILES".
hscottm
Apr 11, 04, 8:53 pm
DC-USCP-
There are no status miles in those transactions. As StSebast. said - the line item for the 3x promo shows up as he stated.
The DOUBLE is because you spent $3759 on US tickets. It says double miles because the other transaction -BOA Purchase Miles- would have given you the SINGLE credit for the purchase - the DOUBLE transaction doubles only those purchase miles from USAirways.

Do I understand correctly that elite members who have been recieving miles from this offer are receiving a total of 4x miles?
So, if I were midtier on US and flew 800 miles, I would receive:
2,400 redeemable elite qualifying miles
800 redeemable bonus miles
For a total of 3,200 miles I can use towards flights?
I have never flown US, am top-tier AA and mid-tier UA, and have never had a BofA CC. I am hoping I could convince them to target me - then fly a quick 33K miles (that is what I would need on US, right?)
I know the AA and UA FF programs well - but not US.
What benefits would I receive as a US top-tier?
- SWUs? (any fare?)
- Domestic upgrades? (any fare?)
- Mileage bonuses?
- Lounge access (international, domestic, both?)
- Anything else significant?

I just had a very curious thing happen to me. I applied for the BoA card to qualify for this promo for my personal trips on USAirways. I also registered for promotion 6699 on USAirways website.
I use USAirways for business trips as well, but those flights have to be charged to the American Express Corporate Card. However, I just saw that the first of my business flights has the triple preferred miles bonus posted as well, even though I used the AmEx card to buy them.
Has anyone else run into this quirk yet?

Does anyone know if the US Airways Signature Visa counts for this promotion? Or is it just for Platinum, Gold, and Classic US Dividend Miles Visa cards? I just want to make sure to apply for the right card...
Also, for old cardholders (since 6699 is just for new cardholders), do they have some similar promotion each year for existing cardholders? Or does everyone just cancel after the first year?

When I signed up for the card, it was for the August, not June deadline (fortunately, I saved a copy of the webpage saying August). My triple miles for the flight I took in June posted right away. Now, however, my July & Auguts flights have not posted as triple miles, so it looks like I'm going to have to fight about those miles. Additionally, they are trying to deny Mr. Macksa the triple miles by claiming that he was not the cardholder, so he is not entitled to them. I purchased the tickets for both of us using my card. The terms and conditions of the credit card offer state:
Apply for the US Airways Visa Card and start earning triple miles on all US Airways flights when using your new card for ticket purchases. This offer is valid for purchases made with your new US Airways Visa for travel from the date you receive the card to August 31, 2004. Bonus miles will also count toward earning Preferred status.
Terms and Conditions: Offer valid to new cardholders approved between 4/1/04 and 8/31/04. Triple flight mile bonus valid toward Preferred status on all fares for travel on US Airways, US Airways Shuttle or US Airways Express operated flights between 4/1/04 - 8/31/04 and purchased with your new approved US Airways Visa Card. You will automatically be eligible for the Triple Miles offer once you are approved for the US Airways Visa Card, activate your new card, register for this promotion and purchase your US Airways tickets using the new card. Tickets purchased with the US Airways Visa Check Card or US Airways Visa Business Card do not qualify for bonus miles. Offer not combinable with any other flight bonus mile or Preferred status offers. This offer excludes travel on all airline partners such as United and Lufthansa. All Dividend Miles terms and conditions apply.
I don't see anything in here limiting the bonus miles to the cardholder.
Has anyone else had experience with these two situations?

How about: Offer valid to new cardholders...
I very much doubt that they would allow for triple miles for anyone that has had a ticket purchased using a card activated during the promo. Good luck.

I signed up and received triple miles for all flights until August 31. All the other tickets I purchased on this card did not receive triple miles and that is exactly as I expected (see bolded words in T&C above. Actually, as other have noted, once I was signed up, all travel was tripled during the period, even a few tickets already purchased on another Visa card (other than the new one). So I felt that part was an unexpected win for me.
You should get the triple for your travel in July and August, so that you should certainly pursue. :)
