View Full Version : New wine 'glasses' in First

On a recent RT to Cancun, I had some new plastic 'glasses' for wine on all of the flights. These were the stemmed plastic ones you might find at a picnic. Are these a new, permanent change? I liked them much better than the standard plastic cup for sure.

That's a rather creative compromise to mix cost-cutting with the customer experience. I'm not sure if I like it or not. I've written to them in the past asking that they reinstate glassware for wine glasses only, and keep it as plastic for other drinks (which I often receive on other airlines in First and which for some reason doesn't bother me as much as with wine)

How does it feel drinking it out of the plastic stemware?

Although I haven't seen the new wine glasses, my guess is that these probably hold less than the plastic tumblers. I'll compare on my flights next week.

Anyone ever pulled out their own wine glasses in Envoy?? We'll be traveling to Paris in the fall on Envoy rewards. We always have a pair of sturdy *glass* wine glasses in our backpack when we go to Paris (nice to pick up a bottle in a wineshop and sit by the Seine) - so we could theoretically pull them out in flight. Don't like wine in plastic either. Opinions?

No need to. Envoy uses glassware. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Slightly OT - on our last Envoy hop, the "silverware" looked like it was metal. It was really metal-colored plastic, but it loked much nicer than the white plastic, and it was hefty enough that, if you tried, you could convince yourself it was metal.

If I recall they might even have that in premium transcons on AA in coach. Certainly in first on AA even on short (LGA-ORD) for instance,.

Isn't this what US uses on transcons too? I fly PHL-SEA every week and haven't seen white silverware for probably a year now.

I flew PIT-SFO and back recently and had the super-duper heavyweight plastic utensils that could be mistaken for metal if you don't look closely. I believe they've had them for a while; if you have to use plastic, they are about the toughest plastic you can get.

I was on a first class award ticket on both US and UA, and at least in my limited experience, UA first class blew US first class out of the water.... including of course, real glasses for everything!

A "Mileage Run"... is that what they're called? I've been doing them for years and didn't know they had a name.

Haven't seen the new "glasses" yet, so i'm curious, what routes are they being loaded on? I'm usually doing mid-cons and west coast. Also, about the silverware in envoy; I think metal forks and spoons are slowly coming back... At least they were on my FRA-PIT this past december. However, you will never see metal on any LGW,MAN,DUB,SNN,GLA flight. It's against British law for us carriers to use it...

I'd rather drink wine out of a ceramic mug than plastic http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

#82 SFO-PHL today…The plane was near empty (so much so that a ground crew member came aboard and re-arranged pax in coach to address weight distribution) and we boarded 35 minutes early. Even with so much time and so few people and full compliment of f/a’s, no pre-flight drink was offered and coats were very slow to be picked up. Just shortly before pushing back (and at least after 25 mins on board), a bottle of water was given to each pax. In the air, we had the choice of two cold lunch plates: thai chicken salad or roast beef sandwich, both served with a warm spicey tomato bisque soup, crackers and roll; dessert was a warm choc chip cookie and glass of milk. No sign of the new plastic wine cups whatsoever. Tray tables and armrests were not clean and pen marks abound.

I don't know about anyone else, but this just absolutely irritates me to NO end! Seeing crumbs and spills on the armrests and traytables, and then the worst is the pen and marker ALL over the seats. I think that it is downright disgusting. You think that the service crew could at least clean off the armrests in the F cabin! But then again, this is US that we're talking about, so that kind of thing is expected

# 59 CLT-SFO last week...The plane was full and we boarded on time. Got pre-flight Finlandia with green lime and bottle of water. Had Shrimp Scampi with salad and Cheese cake, was very good and filling. FA kept drink glass full and mini-bottles flowing freely. Cabin was clean and no pen marks to be found. Great flight.

Flights to DUB are enforced under British law about as much as flights to LGW are enforced under French law: that is, they're not!

I still have not seen the new "glass". I've been on over 20 flights this year and not one has had them.
