I'm a newbie at international air
travel. Is it necessary to go through customs if you are taking the turnaround
flight in Paris. I would only have carryon
bags. Panning a mileage run PHL-Paris-PHL-LAX-PHL-Paris-PHL esaver nested itenary within 4 days and take advantage of the
targeted Paris bonus.

Yes, you'll need to clear customs and then go to the check-in for the return flight as if you'd been in Paris for weeks!

It's no problem though - I have been asked how long I'll be staying and I just say "one day" and if they ask why so short I then say I'm collecting FF miles. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

The paris incoming flight arrives at 940am
and outgoing leaves Paris at 12:55PM. Is this enough time for clearing customs and
checking in, assuming no winter and de-icing delays leaving PHL? Or is it too risky on a
non refundable ticket?

You should be fine. The benefit of being on the plane that makes up your return flight is that even if your incoming flight is delayed, so will the out bound!

If all is on time - you will have plenty of time for duty-free shopping IMHO.

RELAX. All is well with your plan... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/thumbsup.gif

Customs? What customs? Oh, you mean that door off to the side on the way out of Baggage Claim.

You should have minimal delay since you have no baggage to pick up -- that's where I always have to wait 1h -- the only place you might have to wait is getting off the plane. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Time for baguettes and other related shopping.

Really, you'll be fine.
