Has anyone had any luck getting an award ticket with routing all the way to Key West?
Otherwise, how likely is MIA/FLL next month?

I was looking at MIA over the MLK holiday weekend and 20K wasn't available for Fri -> Sun, but just about any other outbound or return day was available at 21 days out. The 40K FC award was available any day at 21 days out, but was no longer available for Fri out and Sun return at 10 days out.
Based on that small sample, availability seemed pretty open, but if you're trying to book for a major festival or holiday time period, it'll probably be a lot more difficult.

I had absolutely no problem a couple years ago getting tickets to EYW. It was about two or three months out, though. And it was June.
Good luck!

Looks like all Beech 1900's so availability very very limited. Premium or FC award into MIA/FLL much better.

Wow. Those Beech 1900's sure are tiny planes. I don't think I've ever seen 2 seats total per row.

In my experience the drive down to Key West from MIA or FLL (or even PBI) is fine ... it's the drive back that sucks. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I'd also consider the 40k premium award all the way, you could upgrade the MIA portion and it would include the flight all the way to the keys. This is a good value in my opinion as it lets you book any open flight.

Tried this same route myself a number of times with the thought of using miles. The Beech 1900 to EYW was the hang up. Ended up doing MIA and driving. Not a bad drive really.

Yes the premium coach award, and then upgrading sounds like a good strategy, especially if you may have to change your flights. With that premium award, you can grab any Y seat. Also when I was in EYW I was able to get a bump, and the agents said almost evry flight was oversold. This was about 5-6 years ago though..
Edited To Add: Remember you can go standby anytime on the standard 20/25K coach award. You could book a ticket for October 19th and go standby today. Also you can standby for a return before the Sat. night stay.
