View Full Version : Converting miles to e-upgrades?

I'm flying with someone who is US4 (DM member) with about 15k miles and no e-upgrades in their account.

If we get upgraded as planned then I'm going to be short 2 e-ups for the return so I'm wondering if there was any way to make use of those 15k miles. (would be nice if US took 3 e-ups for a 1674 mile flight...)

Um - I can buy e-ups? Can I buy them at check-in? Is that something that they can handle (correctly) at SXM?

I think they sell four, 500 mile e-ups for $200.00 to Preferred members. I would recommend checking US.com as it has pretty comprehensive information. I would also recommend that you avoid conducting this transaction in SXM; do it before you leave the US. Most island counter service is provided by personnel who are contracted from another airline and don't know much about anything involving the DM program.

I'm not sure about the converting miles to e-upgrades, but if you are interested in purchasing e-upgrades, as a preferred you can buy them for $40.00 each. This transaction can be done online, at a kiosk, through reservations, or at the ticket counter. I would be cautious about buying them in SXM, because I usually find their knowledege of policies/sales to be minimal.

You can redeem 10,000 miles for 6 e-upgrades.

If you don't have status then you can't do the e-upgrade thing unless you bought a higher price ticket:

But if you're doing it for them, then they can upgrade as your companion.

I'd say the 10K for 6 500's is probably your best bet, unless you're short on miles and heavy with cash to pay for them. There's also the possibility that you won't be able to upgrade the flight, in which case I'd hate to be out $200.
