View Full Version : Should I wait until later this year to credit flights to US/UA?

Lots of travel on US metal upcoming, much of it short-hop (and/or not upgradeable by virtue of type of craft). I'm seriously thinking of withholding my FF number, and deciding later this year whether to credit the lot of it to UA instead.

Pro:
- Keeps my options open

Con:
- Can't upgrade even if it's available
- No preferred seating in Y if I don't disclose status by giving my DM#
- It might not add up to enough for UA status in any event
- Hassle of asking for retroactive credit

Any thoughts?

Will either/both airlines grant your request for mileage credit for flights flown more than 90 days previously?

UA & US both allow a 1-year window, per info on their respective websites.

I've been considering the same thing.
Basically I thought: why not send all the credits to UA except on the flights I can upgrade (1 out of every 7 flights).
In this way, I could at least qualify for Silver on UA and maybe even do a challenge for gold.

I've also considered flying UA metal. Out of RIC I can get most places I need to go on UA or US. I'd only fly US on upgradeable flight and still send the miles to UA.

Then again, I want to help US... I'd like to seem them make it. I also think there is a strong chance that UA will buy the DM program if US folds.
