First, I must say that everyone at US has been absolutely wonderful with reservations for the superbowl. I have called them a zillion times and everyone was very helpful and cheerful. There are 4 of us traveling from 2 different cities so we have been making lots of changes to coordinate our flights. Availability is changing by the minute and they always say to call back if nothing is available. Of course, I use the web to check the availability before I call them.

Now the bad news. I have been booking premium coach awards and upgrading them. Remember, these are NOT capacity controlled. I will quote the US web site "No capacity controls, blackout dates or Saturday night stay requirements." To do this, they are booked out of the Y inventory.

Well, this afternoon, they found a way to limit the awards. On Feb 2nd, the morning after the game and the day in most demand, all open seats are now in B and not Y. Thye have zeroed out Y inventory. A flight can be Y0 B4. They will not book a premium award into the B seat. I spoke to 2 differnt CP agents and the defended the practice. I asked if they have ever seen that before and they admitted they had not. The openly said they wanted to SELL the seats for the revenue and that is why no more seats are going into the Y bucket. I don't blame them, but they have changed the rules. I am a little upset since I wanted to change to an earlier flight (which was P4, Y0, B4), but the premium coach award is still the best thing going.

And for those of you who do go to the game, have fun and remember to stay away from the IAH ticket counter on the return. Coming out of IAH, kiosks and web checkin are your best friend. IAH has been so severely affected in the cuts, that the whole place is just evil..They have about 12 agents total and can't keep up... I don't know where you are, but you also might be better off trying to get seats on UA. However, they only fly there from ORD/DEN..

Update:

The B fares (Non refundable BE7NN) are selling fast at $800 each but the Y fare was at $1,900 a piece. If they could have sold the Ys, they lost a lot of money.

If you booked the flight last week, in aticipation of the Pats win it was $209.00 RT from PVD. If the pats lost you had a year to use that fare. I am suprised that US did not aticipate that ahead of time.
