If you fly US and want to try to achieve and/or maintain elite status, the Bank of America Dividend Miles card is the way to go. They have various promos each year, usually including double status miles, that are only available for those who purchase their tickets with the US Airways card.

The American Express card is also worth looking at with the new option to earn double points on "everyday" purchases like groceries and gas.

I have both in my wallet, but I don't believe either is free.

I also carry both. Amex-Delta is Always Double for gas, hardware store, drugstore, Postal Service, and grocery purchases, and runs occasional double-miles promos on all purchases. NOTE: Amex-Delta can be gotten free for the first year.
