Just found out I may travel less in 2004 and so if I'm going to get US2 again, I need to be more strategic. I feel stupid asking this question--esp to this audience--but now I need to pay attention and know!
Which miles count towards status vs just collecting miles?
-class of service bonus--sometimes I do just buy an F ticket?
-status bonus miles--does my US2 100% bonus per flight count towards status?
-promos--with this 10K to Europe, for example, does the 10K go to status?
I know Sprint, Hertz, BOA, etc. all don't count.
Please help me plan. Happy Holidays everyone!

OK,
1) Class of service bonuses count.
2) Status bonuses do not count.
3) Promos sometimes count - it depends on the small print. In the case of the 10K Europe promo, it does not.

10,000 miles will be applied to your status mileage once you spend $25,000 on BOA Visa.

ONLY on the platinum card however... worth the $90 per year however for the quick 10K.

A "Mileage Run"... is that what they're called? I've been doing them for years and didn't know they had a name.

And since he does sometimes "just" buy F tickets that should happen in March http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif
If I were BBB you'd have mail right now and being a US2 wouldn't be a problem...

I'm cutting it very close to the $25K if...it means charged but not billed. Meaning it hits my account on say 12/29/2003 but I don't receive my statement until 1/15/2004. Are those dollars counted toward 2004 or 2003?

That's a good question, and specifically why I put off getting the timing belt replaced on my car until January 2!!! I'm pretty sure they count purchases by billing statement (i.e. anything purchased after the last billing statement in '03 will count towards '04), but I'm not 100% sure.

I'm pretty sure it's by billing date also. That is how the regular miles post to your DM account and it would not make sense to do it any other way, nor would they have the data links to do it any other way. In my case my closing date is the 16th so anything after that appears on the next month - that is why my new furnace and central air unit was charged after Dec 16th...
My plan is to have my 25K for 2004 by say June 04 so that if by any chance the $8K furnace/AC doesn't count I have another 4 months or so to close the gap.

Dingo, if your actual charges in 2003 exceed $25,000 (even if your billing statements don't), I think you have a good argument for the 10K status miles. I checked the terms & conditions on US's website, and it clearly states "...$25,000 or more each calendar year." When I clicked on the terms & conditions, there was nothing which stated that the $25K in charges must be made by the end of the December billing cycle. Keep copies of all of your statements, in case your preferred miles do not post.
Make a big purchase in December and return it in January after the miles post http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

The way that is phrased, it does sound like charges made and billed in January count toward 2003 totals. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Correct, but you may need to wait until you receive your January statement to "prove" this to US. I also think Gardener is correct in that the billing cycles count, as well. If you've had your Platinum card for over a year you may have gotten a jump start on your qualifying purchases last December. Is it possible that if you count last December's purchases on your January statement, you have already crossed the finish line?
