Just booked an itinerary LGW-ROC. I tried to upgrade my return leg to Envoy and was told there was no availability.

Is it possible for me to check on SABRE or some other network to find out if we've got any chance of upgrades?

So far as I know, "O" (or whatever the Envoy upgrade inventory is called these days) is not available on any of the public engines.

Also, in my experience, US has been holding back silly amounts of Envoy inventory for gate release (or the theory that somebody is going to buy 8-12 seats on walkup Envoy fares). I've been having to call at 3 days out to ask for a seat release from inventory management, and sometimes that has not worked. As a CP, I'll then clear the day of with 6 seats left open in Envoy after silvers and golds have been cleared.

My wife and I are both Silver and I will make Gold with this trip. I've got my European transatlantic space available upgrade certificates in hand, but had hoped to confirm Envoy on the way back with miles.. (didn't want to risk losing it).

I guess my only option now is to put myself on the waiting list at the gate? Or would calling the Silver reservation line increase my chances?

I just went on to the US web site and made like I was going to purchase a round trip in Envoy (which runs like $7k per person, by the way!)..

Turns out our way there has like 7 seats free, and the way back has around 14, according to the US web site.

With this in mind, should I try to call the silver reservation line and upgrade with miles, or would I be better off just using our space available certificates?

One flight is this coming Friday, and the return is Monday.

Thanks.
