Check this out--from the Observer's "Living Here" section Sunday:

You'd think we'd know a US plane in Charlotte if we saw one....

Probably just a mistake by the newspaper. That is a pretty big plane....

There may be a Dash8 or RJ behind the UA airliner.

I think they got the "U" right.

A "Mileage Run"... is that what they're called? I've been doing them for years and didn't know they had a name.

The media never ceases to amaze me on how they can royally mess up aviation material...this is terrible though...are they all blind at the Observer?

No they didn't, unless the city of "Frankfort" changed their spelling http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I sent a polite email to Mr. Reed, the author of the article:

Hello Mr. Reed -

I wanted to make you aware of two glaring errors in your "Frequent Flights, but high air fares" article.

The first error is the picture of a United 737 on approach with the biline under the picture "A USAirways jet prepares to land...."

The second error is the incorrect spelling of Frankfurt. You spelled it Frankfort.

Maybe he just really likes Kentucky - could be working for the Board of Tourism.

Visit exciting destinations like London, Mexico, the Carribean, and Frankfort Kentucky!

That is so funny. In Charlotte close to the airport, you have to TRY not to get a shot of USAir metal in the air. They have, what, 90% of the take off/landing slots? The Observer amazes me.

I should point out that the shot is clearly a stock photo as the aircraft pictured is a UA 737-200, and UA retired those a few years ago...still inexcusable IMO...

If that was a current (or even recent) photo, the Hearst Tower would be visible to the left of the Bank of America headquarters (the pointy building) on the left of the page. The "Three Wachovia" building is there, so this dates the photo to the 1999-2000 range. Any later than that we'd be able to at least see the shell of the Hearst tower going up.
