The GAs all assume that we know but I generally have no idea until they're ripping my boarding pass. Since I've been paying attention these are the ones I'm aware of.
No longer required:
PIT
CLT
DCA
BWI
ORD
LAX
Still required:
PHL
Of course you still need it to get through security check, but it would be nice to know at which airports I can tuck my license back into my wallet after security.
The whole process is a blur nowadays, but if LAX doesn't check ID's at the US gate it is a recent change.

Rich,
I'm pretty sure that link is only talking about security check points. ID's required there are probably the case at 90% of airports.
What about at the actual gate - boarding the plane. Sometimes it means getting your license ready for the 3rd time, but many airports are now no longer requiring that.
At LAX this morning: ID checked at check-in, again at security (did not have to hold my boarding pass while going through), ID not required to board.

Recently flying IAD-LAX-LAS and back on UA. IAD no gate ID checks for domestic, yes for International (for several months now). LAX: to LAS the agent asked for ID and while handing it over to him I asked if they had different rules there, he just barked at me that at LAX gates they checked ID's and if I didnt like.... etc... we all know what he was saying.
On a way back, LAS no gate ID checks, LAX the very nice gate agent, before boarding, said something like "we know many of you fly frequently through airports accross the country... we know they do not check ID's at gates at those airports... but here at LAX by the order of T.Ridge ... DHS... we are required to ask for this peace of identification... please be kind enough to show... " it was like a real surprise to hear something like that, very polite, very explanatory

I've noticed several times when I use the kiosks and my boarding pass clearly says that ID must be presented at the gate, I board without being asked to show ID. While I appreciate not being bothered, it does seem a weak spot in security.

Funny showing ID at the jetway door was one thing that made sense to me.
I guess they could say by being inconsistent that it was their way to keep people guessing but we know better that is more like they don't know what rules to follow.

I cannot remember the last time I had to get my ID out at the gate. That includes TPA, IAD, CLT, FLL, LAS, LAX, PIT, MYR, FAY.

ID checking does nothing, zero, nada, ZIP for security. Terrorists don't need to use their own IDs - they can borrow/steal/create/buy another's. Gate agents and TSA agents couldn't identify a fake/misused ID if their life depended on it.
We need to stop wasting our time with sham security. It's quite irritating.

I didn't need my ID on boarding at SEA in August, to add another to the list.

It is so inconsistent that it makes little sense. For example, last night I was coming home from Atlanta via Charlotte (Oh what we do to accrue segments - 3 hours on USAirways instead of a nonstop on Delta!). Anyway, at Atlanta security, they just checked for a boarding pass (no ID) and then checked IDs at the gate. Then in Charlotte, they don't check IDs at the gate.

RSW (Ft Myers) no longer requires the ID to board the plane, but it and the BP are shown 3(!) times during the security check.
1. To get into the screening line
2. To show the TSA who is screening (after the pass through)
3. To get out of the security area and the BP is initialed and then one can go to the gate area.

Ain't this the truth. What if a terrorist DID in fact use their own ID? Even if their name is on some kind of list (which of course, the gate agent wouldn't be aware of anyway) and the FBI can check the names on the manifest, once they are at the gate, the FBI missed them and it's too late anyway.

They don't require ID at boarding in MCO. I think it is funny that US still prints "ID Required for Boarding" on the boarding passes!
My other fav. time to be asked for ID is when ordering alcohol. (This has happened several times on planes.)

No- SFO, ORD, ATL
Yes - DTW, PHL
However, these (and the ones above)are not consistent. I think when the terrorist threat level is a brighter color - ID must be triple checked. Although, I remembered 6 months ago where ID wasn't checked at the PHL Gates.
