Is this a result of US's new codeshare in the Carribean with Sun???
the discontinuance is based on the boneheads at the VI Port Authority trying to jack up the airport fees. In response, AA announced a complete pullout of its ground operation [its flights will still come, but the ground crews and checkin clerks will not be AA workers]. US has now announced no more STX-PHL service. And I was wondering about the CLT service; is it going too?
when questioned about the increases, the idiot in charge of the VIPA offered the astute observation, "well, they should have just added on to their fares". yes, to a destination so very reliant on drawing tourists. sheesh.

STX historically has served two purposes since there is very little O & D traffic. First, the 734's leaving STT for PHL or CLT could not safely take-off with enough fuel for the flight home, so STX was to refuel. Second, crew overnights were on St. Croix since it is less expensive than St. Thomas.
CLT-STT is now a 757 and the crew makes a day trip (7:30 block time RT). Not certain as to what is planned for STT-PHL since that service is an A320. At certain times in the past, aircraft have gone to SJU instead of STX.

not too surprised by the measure. St. Croix is a very small island and i think they want to keep it that way. I was just down in the USVI's 2 months ago and St. Croix was easily the least commercialized.
right now US operates a daily PHL-STT-STX-PHL with a 320. The plane is only in STX for about an hour so i guess this isn't that bad of a measure. On weekends there are 2 separate flights, PHL-STT-PHL with a 752 and PHL-STX-PHL with a 320. I would assume the 752 would continue to operate the weekend PHL-STT-PHL.

A slight disagreement, please. St. Croix is the largest of the 3 USVI's. St. John is the smallest and the least commercial as 2/3rds of the island is National Park.

I think the point trying to be made here is that St. Croix is the least visited island of the 3. Up until recently cruise lines called at both STT and STX, but most if not all have pulled out of STX because of higher port fees and high crime rates. You would thin kthat the Port Authority would do its best to attract visitors to STX.

STX's economy is not as dependent on tourism as STT is... one of the world's largest refineries operates in STX, providing a good employment base.

but nowhere near enough...
anyway, does No One have the answer to the original question? STX-PHL is gone after August, but it STX-CLT going too?

Currently, there is no daily CLT-STX service. The few passengers who need to get to STX connect with the A320 in STT that goes PHL-STT-STX-PHL every day except Saturday.

The web site is so confused it's not funny. I was trying to help a co worker who already booked Thanksgiving tickets before things got tossed up some. They now have her connecting to American in Miami.
As I look up the flights right now, this is what I see. I have not hit "more departing flights" 25 times, I promise!!
The only "morning" flight I can get in 11/21 is:
ORF - 11:30am to PHL
PHL - 10pm to CLT (yes, almost 12 hours later)
CLT - 10am THE NEXT DAY to STX

You mean PHL-STT-STX/SJU-PHL, I think. There is no nonstop STT-PHL service because of the short runway length. A fully loaded 757 can't get off the ground. This is why it has traditionally gone over to STX or SJU.

yes, the nonstop CLT-STX service is weekly, not daily-- 1 time per week, Saturdays Only.
The Question Remains:
Is this once-per-week CLT service going to be continuing, even though the daily service from PHL is being killed off in September?
It would appear someone found it running in November... will it continue into the High Season?
