What can I do with these? Any creative suggestions beyond magazine subscriptions? I wanted to convert them to American miles, but we had a family crisis around the time that capability expired, so I never got to do it. Thanks!

Welcome to Flyertalk, wellsie7!

Since you'll get the best response in the USAirways forum (http://www.flyertalk.com/forumcgi/forumdisplay.cgi?action=topics&forum=US+Airways&number=51&DaysPrune=5&LastLogin=), I'll move this post over there for you.

Best,

Hi,

Every December I get junk mail from "Miles For Magazines" offering to let me use my Dividend Miles to purchase magazine subscriptions.

I have no financial or other affiliation with them other than a recipient of their mailing. I just found the flyer while cleaning up a pile of stuff and it has an 800 number of 800-586-9632 if you want to call them.

As examples:

PC Magazine 12 months 22 issues 1400 miles
Fortune 12 months 26 issues 3000 miles
Wired 12 months 12 issues 600 miles
Travel & Leasure 12 months 12 issues 2200 miles

I can think of 2 ideas. First, you can donate them to Make-A-Wish. Details are at: http://www.usairways.com/dividendmiles/programinfo/charityprogram.htm

Second...(you usually lose a lot of value this way) - but you can use points.com to transfer miles to another program. There are also ways to become a points.com member for free. Contact me for further details, or a quick search of FlyerTalk will yield results.

Be Warned: Points.com exchange rates are terrible. For example...8000 US Airways miles would land you 930 AAdvantage miles.

Donate them. ^

If nothing else, you'll sleep well (for one night at least...).

I joined points.com for the express purpose of converting my USAir miles, but then got a warning that you need to be a USAir Visa card holder in order to transfer miles out of your USAir frequent flyer account. Is there any way around this? Alternatively, is there a no-annual-fee USAir Visa card option?

Sell them on ebay.

That'd be nice, except a) it's a violation of the USAir ToS, and b)you can't transfer miles if you wanted to anyway. Sucks, cause my gf is just shy of having enough to go to Australia, but I can't give her any of my 100k+ miles. :(

You can redeem them for magazines at MilePoint. (http://www.milepoint.com/mall/magazine.asp)

Prior to ordering you must set up an account. All that is required is an email address, street address, and frequent flyer number. However, one can browse the selections without registering. The site has a fairly good assortment, and some can be had for as low as 400 miles.
