I'm sure everyone in the northeast remembers the awful blizzard and snow we had on Feb. 17th. My LGA-BOS shuttle flight was cancelled and the next day my shuttle flight was 2 and 1/2 hours. I was pleasantly surprised to see that US automatically compensated my account for these cancellations and delays:

18-FEB-03 SHUTTLE CANCELLATION BONUS 0 10,000 10,000
18-FEB-03 SHUTTLE EXTENSIVE DELAY BONUS 0 10,000 10,000

That's over 20,000 miles for one way on the shuttle. Whoooooo snow!

I read in, I think the Washington Post, that US gave out several million miles of such bonuses.

Another example of how serious the Shuttle is about being on time. In contrast to, say, American Eagle, where even the staff's watches are broken. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I'll be sure to book a shuttle flight when snow is predicted! This is very impressive. I just don't think it's necessary for them to give bonuses when safety/weather is the condition that caused a cancellation/delay. Idiocy, yes; weather, no. Anyway, what an AWESOME bonus for all the folks who got stuck! It really does make you realize how serious they are about the shuttle.

My LGA-DCA flight was cancelled on Christmas and I only got the 10,000 miles in the middle of February after asking where they were.

As a frequent and vocal critic of US Management, I think they are to be commended for doing the right thing in this instance.

It does however point out the fallacy of there argument that the frequest flyer programs are to costly. They could have very easily gotten away with this one and saved hundreds of thousands if not millions of FF miles and few would have squawked. But they chose not to, you have to ask why?

The bonuses only extended to Shuttle routes.

On Presidents Day 03, I was booked Monday midday BOS-PHL-TPA. Both segments cancelled and US Airways couldn't get me out until Wednesday night BOS-DCA-CLT-TPA with BOS-DCA on the Shuttle and a double connection.

No 20,000 bonus miles for me because my original travel was on mainline. Granted, by BOS-DCA Shuttle flight (onto which I was rebooked) was delayed two hours, so I received a 1,500 "Shuttle On Time Guarantee" bonus.

And no upgrades on the reroute. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif At least they got me an exit row on the DCA-CLT-TPA segments, and the legroom is decent on the BOS-DCA shuttle.
