I hope everyone made a copy of their last Dividend Mile statement. It might come in handy if USAirways doesn't apply any extra segments or miles you might have acquired before the end of the year.
If you remember, USAirways sent out an email stating that any extra acquired segments or miles would be applied to your 2004 totals. I happened to check my statement just now (couldn't sleep) and the preferred miles and segments were reset to ZERO since it's the new year. I hope someone in USAirways (aka BBB) doesn't try to say they didn't offer this to the customers.

Don't worry just yet, if you re-read the email they sent it says "Your Dividend Miles account will be credited with the extra Preferred Miles and Segments by March 15, 2003."
So wait until March and we'll see what happens.

It's CP only. The notice was in the November statement:
TODAY'S FLIGHTS ARE TOMORROW'S REWARD
In appreciation of your continued loyalty, the Preferred Miles and Segments you fly beyond 100,000 miles and 100 segments in 2002 will be added to your 2003 Preferred Miles and Segments balance. That means that you are already on your way to 2004 Chairman's Preferred status. The miles and segments will be added by March 15, 2003. Keep flying - and continue to enjoy the many exclusive benefits your distinguished status brings.

Of course it's just CP -- nobody else has "extra". They just have miles that weren't enough to get to the next level http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif
I wouldn't worry about it posting -- last year they said March and they appeared right on schedule.

I got this e-mail about mileage carry over around the end of October.
Dear Planeluvr,
On behalf of all the employees at US Airways, I want to thank you again for
flying with us so frequently.
As you know, you have already reached Chairman's Preferred status, so you will
have our highest level of status, through February 2004. The fact that you were
able to achieve Chairman's Preferred so quickly underscores how important you
are to us.
As an additional thank you, we want you to know that all the additional
Preferred Miles or Preferred Segments you earn in 2002 above 100,000 miles or
100 segments will count towards your 2004 Chairman's Preferred status. That
will make all the additional flights on US Airways, US Airways Express or US
Airways Shuttle this year count towards qualifying next year.
All you have to do is fly. Your Dividend Miles account will be credited with
the extra Preferred Miles and Segments by March 15, 2003.
Let me also take this opportunity to remind you that you can start earning
Dividend Miles worldwide on United and United Express beginning this Friday,
November 1, 2002. US Airways Club members can already enjoy United Red Carpet
Clubs worldwide when you fly on United the same day. Beginning January 1, 2003,
your travel on United will count towards your 2004 Preferred status and you can
start earning your Chairman's Preferred 100% mileage bonus. These benefits are
the first of many to come as part of US Airways new marketing relationship
United.
We recognize that flying as often as you do takes you away from home more than
you would prefer. We look forward to seeing you again soon on your next flight.
Thank you again for your extraordinary loyalty.
Sincerely,
B. Ben Baldanza

If they're not going to carry over the excess miles, what's the motivation for someone flying on a full Y, A or F fare if they've made CP already? We know the UA product is superior up front and one might as well fly them and give them the miles towards status. Of course, you'll still fly US on your roach fare in hopes of the free upgrade but is that the market to which they want to be appealing??

Like the swallows to Capistrano, it's the annual "will US carryover miles" thread ;)
Revisiting last year, This Rocks! CP Carryover Again! (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=120175) , there were one or two early claims of June and September notification, followed by "I didn't get that notice", "is it targeted?", then uncertainty and doubt "An agent from the DM Service Center e-mailed me the following this morning: "At this time we do not know if we will offer the rollover of miles or segments."", then "I got the official word" in October, then Soft landing and carryover in 2004? (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=119716) "I, yet again, was told by US that no decision has been made yet regarding rollover. ", then the January 2 posts "I can't see the rollover, the world is ending...", etc.
What I took from that is the decision and notification of carryover is a very loose, informal process that is probably low on the priority list during bankruptcy filing.
Yes, it would make sense to announce it widely and early to allow entice those over 100K to stay on US rather than seeking parallel status elsewhere (isn't that the whole point of it?), but I'm not reading much into not hearing by now. They wouldn't be very bright to discontinue this just at the time they need their best customers to hang in there. But then again, ....

I, for one, have already booked an SAN and a PIT RT on US Airways but that was before I got the e-mail from United saying they would comp me 1P status for $50 and two RT's or 2P for 4 RT's. I am holding off booking all the rest of my travel for the 4th quarter until I hear about the carryover. Might just steer a couple or three trips United's way. And then, once I have the 2P status and am getting the 100% mileage bonus on UA, what is to stop me from giving them more biz? Only downside I see is lack of unlimited upgrades.
I think I will email Barry Biffle. I have misplaced his card from RoachFest, could someone more organized than me PM it to me? I made it a point to tell him at RF how much we CP's valued this benefit and how it kept us flying US in the back end of the calendar year. Now more than ever it makes sense for us to hedge by attaining status on another carrier IMHO so you would think they definitely would want to deploy the C/O.
Edited to say it's 4RTs for 2P by Oct 25th. I could squeeze 2 in but not four given I am already booked on US next week.

Yes, he did. It was somewhat confusing but I think he said no carryover because they didn't want to encourage people to fly other carriers. I didn't get the point. In my mind this frees me up to fly others for the rest of 2004 as there is no real benefit to flying US other than the 100% CP bonus. Maybe he means with the carryover people would be sitting pretty for 2005 and fly other carriers.

That must be "USAIRSPEAK". A carrryover is what keeps you from building miles elsewhere after you requalify. I suppose there is the remote possibility that company execs don't read "constituent" mail very carefully, and he misunderstood.

Dumb, dumb, dumb... my choices are:
1) Rack up miles on US to apply towards '06 status...
2) Take a chance on cramming in enough additional miles on NW to jump from Gold to Platinum (I'm probably going to be 10k to 15k short...)
Gold on NW has already got me spending way more time over there than Barry should like. Platinum would likely be the nail in the coffin -- I'd probably end up switching credit cards too so it would be a double whammy to US.

United is running a promo where if you pay $150 you get double EQM's toward status next year. Have to be flown on UA metal. You can wait until Dec 15th to pay the fee.
I haven't had too much incentive to understand UA's system as I give US 98% of my domestic and 100% of my Europe biz (took maybe 6 segments on UA this year - 4 to SBA which US doesn't serve - but credited to DM), but if they don't offer the carryover I am thinking this could be a quick route to Silver or Gold on UA (They call Silver Premier and Gold Premier Executive as far as I can tell).
I still don't understand why they are incenting us to go fly another carrier - by the time we invest the effort to understand the other carrier's rules and regs and then take a bunch of flights there is a risk we may never look back if the experience is good enough. In my biz we try to keep current customers because we recognize it costs a lot more to win a new cuistomer than to keep an existing one happy.

You might want to tell your source that the decision (assuming it's true) has convinced CP's on FT to continue flying US vs. gaining status elsewhere. :)
However, FT is a small community compared to all CP's - they may want to publicize this via statements, e-mail, etc. Doing it to try to keep folks flying then not telling them until January or March kind of defeats the purpose. Like it did last year.

Yes, miles for the rest of the year will start you toward requalifying next year. That's the whole point - make them worth something and stop you from moving elsewhere for the next few months.
At least that's how it has worked in the past and I can't see them changing it.

OK, so with my trip to MAN next week I will requalify for CP for 2006. So the question is: Will my miles in excess of 100K carryover as they have the past 2 or 3 years?
Specifically, has anyone else hit 100K tier miles for the year and closely examined their emailed statement after achieving 100K tier miles to look for the coveted paragraph saying the carryover is in effect?

Typically, they haven't made the announcement until October or so each year.
Personally, when I meet the requirements for CP for '06 (proobably around July 1st), I will start crediting my miles to another Star Alliance airline for the rest of the year. I'll probably go United, but Lufthansa is a slight possiblility. The thing that draws me to UA is that have had double EQM bonus promos in the fourth quarter of the last two years. I should be able to make 1K if they do that again this year.

I should hit 100K on Saturday. I guess the merger is a Catch-22 situation: without it I would be willing to bet that CCY would retain the CP carryover...but without it there probably wouldn't be a US!
What's a spoiled CP to do?
We can, and I'm sure will, continue to speculate how this proposed merger will affect many aspects of the DM program...but it's all speculation at this point. My plan is to continue accruing to US (and realizing the CP benefits) whenever reasonable and just hoping for the best. That's certainly preferable to sitting in the back of the bus for 6 months, starting over on a new carrier, "just in case."
