Looks like I'm finishing up the year with just shy of 100K preferred points. Is that close enough to renew my CP status?

To my knowledge it isn't at all, why not do a BWI-LGA-BOS run? 4000 status miles, and you could prolly get it last minute under $200.

PHL -- I think given their current situation, it would be in their best interest to keep a flyer like you...

Give them a ring and talk to them (unless, of course, you're trying to avoid scrutiny of your acct.) I wouldn't count on an automatic comp but I think they'd extend if you asked.

I had a co worker who had 96 segments last year. They would not COMP him to CP. I agree, be safe, do a quick mileage run on New Years Eve. Buy yourself some beer in the plane. Maybe the FA will dance around at midnight. Depends on how important it is to you. Risk it or buy it :-]

96,700 ?! That's crazy ... I know people who've been "slid under the wire" by US for less (slightly) miles and 95+ segments -- post 9/11 ... so that's not a consideration.

Even if you have to "fish" for CSRs ... All they can say is "no" ! And I can offer this insight --- accounts were not "audited" when those who called were comped (GOM = not a factor).

Good Luck !

I can only find $197 roundtrips on the shuttle. But I'm in PHL, so I have to get to DCA or LGA, also for the additional 1000 points for a roundtrip. The best I've found for any single day in the next 4 (Sat-Tue) are:

PHL-BOS 1030am
BOS-LGA 1pm
LGA-BOS 3pm
BOS-PHL 545pm

The PHL-BOS roundtrip is $292.50. The BOS-LGA roundtrip is $197. Too much. Any other ideas? I'd rather go on Saturday 12/28, but could do it on New Year's Eve during the day. The roundtrip fares then are $98, but they require you stay over night. I suppose I could buy 4 roundtrips and throwaway the last segment of each one. Then it would be only $400, but that's still more than I want to pay for 4000 tier miles.

Do you have a US Airways Platinum Visa?

I priced a same day on 12/31 BWI-LGA-BOS-LGA-BWI at $277.50.

Booked online this trip would get you 4,000 status miles.

I'm not sure why BWI-BOS is so high, maybe they aren't matching airtran anymore.

$277 is better, catwood. But then I have to get myself to BWI - a good 90 minute drive from where I live. I could, however, route myself through PHL on the return(LGA-PHL-BWI) and it still comes up at $279. I may just resort to a well penned letter to DM Service Center.

They're matching FL, its just that you're booking for travel in the next couple days.

I did BWI-PHL-LGA-BOS-LGA-PHL-BWI for $133 - booked 3 weeks in advance.

PHL, you could always take Amtrak to BWI (if you live in the city, this might be better; burbs, you better drive). I believe there is a shuttle between the station and airport (at least I saw one on my last trip to DC) But then again, this is more $$. And if you drive, make sure you bring your ezpass and watch for the coppers (they're everywhere this time of year). Good luck!

I'm in the same boat as you are (shy of 3K miles) but made the decision not to spend any more money on a ship that is sinking. Unfortunately, out of PHL, there's not a clear winner as to where my loyalty will go.

Never mind -- incorrectly thought you could return same day on $98 special.

PHL - I have been CP for over 5 years. One year, I was slightly under the CP miles qualification. I wrote a letter to US Airways, addressed to Ben Baldanza. I noted in the letter my loyalty to US, and the loyalty that I planned to continue to the next year. (I had also just received, however, the Top 500 Flyer award, which is based on revenue). Within a week of sending my letter, I received a message that my request was being reviewed by the CP Review Committee (nice to know that our dollars are being spent so well!). The messagee noted that I would know the results of their review within several weeks. In the end, my status was extended. Do take into consideration that US is not very generous with the CP status.
