I've got a transatlantic ticket with the outbound upgradeable, but the inbound in V. I'd like to pay the difference and change it to K if possible. I even wouldn't mind paying the change fee. It's a paper ticket, if that makes things more difficult. Will trying to change the inbound to an upgradeable fare mean they'll reprice the whole ticket? There's only Y inventory left on the outbound, so I obviously don't want them to do that. Thanks, Ed.

Yes, unfortunately with their short-sighted vision, they WILL charge you more than just the fare difference to pay up to the higher booking class. So it will be fare difference +$200.
This is of course by the rules. You might get extremely lucky and get it easier.
We saw this last year when they had the Envoy sale. Someone with a $600 ticket offered to buy up to the $1400 tickets, and they wanted $800 plus the change fee (only $150 then?).
Magically, someone from US had been monitoring the forum and contacted him and said they would gladly take 'only' his extra $800.
