if i were targeted for "Take the Chairman's Preferred Fast Track" Enjoy the benefits of 2003 Chairman's Preferred membership by flying 20,000 Preferred Miles or 20 Preferred Segments between September 1 and December 15, 2002.
and "Earn up to 20,000 Bonus Miles Counting Toward Preferred Status" where you get a total of 10,000 miles after 8 segments.
could i get chairman preferred status with 2 round trips on the shuttle: BOS-LGA-DCA (6,000 miles/rt after triple miles) costing $100+ taxes each?
this seems too good to be true (yes, i have read the other threads about us airways threatening to take back miles, etc)
would this work?

A) I am not sure these 2 promos would work together. I doubt it. But even if they do:
B) For the "fast track" promos, you need to accrue *actual* flight miles rather than simply "preferred" miles.

Also, I am pretty sure BOS-LGA-DCA R/T or any such variant would cost 2 X $116 = $232 (2 X $98 fare + tax).
If I not I would be interested in how you priced this.

actually i priced it on usairways.com
bos-dca choose flexible, choose the $100 fare, keep clicking show more flights until you get BOS-DCA via LGA
done.
i guess the segments would work though. so you could get it with 5 rt's 4 segments each. which would also net 30000miles + 20000 miles for the promo. not bad for 5 weekends work and $500 + taxes if you have a place to stay in dca/bos.
Here's an example:
Requested Flight
Itinerary Total - US$ 129.50 Flight Fare Rules
1 adult at US$ 129.50
3:00pm Depart Boston, MA (BOS)
6:10pm Arrive Washington D.C., (DCA) Nov. 15
US Airways flight 2633 / 2683 Connection in New York LaGuardia View rules
5:00pm Depart Washington D.C., (DCA)
8:08pm Arrive Boston, MA (BOS) Nov. 17
US Airways flight 2680 / 2640 Connection in New York LaGuardia

If you were indeed TARGETED for the CP fast track, then you are playing by the rules, 100%. You sure that the 20 segments can be earned on the shuttle?
USair loves to see these posts, I'm sure... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Aha, the $100 fare is new. That's great. Thanks for the heads up. Earlier the lowest was $188. I am surprised because US does not have much competition on DCA-BOS unlike the LGA shuttle.
Did AA start a DCA-BOS RJ-shuttle?
Bad news is that it is a 14 day fare. I am a very spontaneous person. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
p.s. The promo is valid for the shuttle. There is also the Gold promo for people who were not targeted.

woody: in the promo for chairman preferred, it says "preferred miles" not actual miles. so what's that all about? i am guessing you can't combine the promo's also. if it really is preferred miles, which i think it is, then it's only 4 rt's or 3 + 2000miles from somewhere else http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Offer only valid for addressee. Offer valid with the purchase of published fares on US Airways®, the US Airways Express carriers and US Airways Shuttle®. Not valid with any other flight bonus mile offers that count toward earning Preferred status. Only actual miles or the 500-mile minimum flight credit qualify. A segment is defined as travel taken under one flight number - either a direct or nonstop flight. All Dividend Miles terms and conditions apply.

Do you have to be targeted for this promotion? If someone happened to have received an unusually large amount of miles for a trip that he really didn't want anyone to see do you think it would be a good idea to try and sign up? If you don't need to be targeted that is.

it seems there was never a "loophole" on these fast track promos - they will NOT give the status without "actual" flight miles.
also, a friend of mine (no, not me!) signed up for this promo by actually calling a live DM CSR and saying, explicitly, that she was not targeted, but heard about the offer and would like to be signed up. request granted. she will not likely make it, but has 2 transcons and a rome flight planned this fall, which will get her close. point being: living, breathing, speaking (as opposed to the automated phone/web systems) US personnel have *willingly* signed up people for promos who have stated that they were not targeted. how can they not award the bonuses after that?!?!?

So the fast track to CP was a targeted offer?

FYI: i have found this sort of situation to occur from time to time: a friend called DM and mentioned this promo (no code number, just referred to it in general terms) and said she knew someone who had received a mailing but that she had not, and would like to be signed up anyway, if possible. CSR did a little checking, then said no problem and signed her up.

Question about this. So after you sign up for it, how do you know how many miles you need to complete it? Does it retro back a week or 2? Any help would be apprecaited.

the 'challenges' all tend to have preset start and end dates, usually referring to a 3 (or in the case of the CP 3.5) month period.
I believe the CP challenge is sept 1 - dec 15, for example.
Note other airlines (eg AA) have rolling challenge windows. ie you call in and it starts.

So if I enrolled after the start date, all of the flights would be counted, even if I hadn't registered for them prior to traveling?

At this point your best bet is the open Gold promo. It is open to anyone who asks and am sure they will work it retroactively. It spans Oct 1 - Dec 31 and -- I think --requires 16 segements or 12,500 miles.

The promos are supposedly not retroactive, only valid from the time you sign up. However, who knows with U's system because on some promos I have received retro credit but on others I haven't.
