This is my first international flight as a US2. My friend and I are confirmed from LGW-DCA, but from DCA-CDG (10/21), only one is. I am currently on the waitlist and ITN is showing 19 seats available (767). What do you think my chances are of clearing? I am worried b/c it would suck to sit in coach while my friend is in Envoy and its a Monday flight.

I woudln't worry about it ... you'll probably clear ... when you consider your friend already has one of the Envoy seats and one of them is for crew rest, that means that there are only 3 others taken already ... I'm really surprised you haven't cleared yet actually, how long have you been on the waitlist?

In the event you have not cleared on the day before departure (and there are still available seats), call the local reservation number and ask them to contact inventory control for permission to release a seat. Certainly explain the situation with your friend. From my experience, they are very cooperative.

Otherwise, you face the airport upgrade; IMHO, a potentially unpleasant affair at CDG.

I'd call the Gold Preferred Desk right now and see if they can get Inventory to release a seat. 19 seats left is quite high, and if you explain that your friend is cleared, they may just oblige. Or Get Out More, make Chairman's, and then call up.

Looks like j_mee is actually flying DCA-CDG, so he won't have to deal with the upgrade at CDG, which is indeed unpleasant. Also, the arrivals service kinda sucks at CDG. Oh well...

Thanks for the advice. The ticket is on hold right now and I will more than likely purchase tomorrow. I will ask if they can can call inventory to release an additional seat when I make the purchase.

You've not purchased the ticket yet? How did you get on the waitlist to begin with?? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought you had to be ticketed to be in line for upgrades??

Generally true, but I've had the occasional Chairman's agent grab the upgrade for me while it's on hold.

I purchased the tickets this morning. My friend decided to waitlist instead and allow me to confirm. He has two more transcontiental trips that should put him at US1 and hopefully guarantee a seat in envoy.
