Attention all control freaks. When booking the following, the seating map for most of the legs only offered me a smattering of center B and E seats. So against every fiber of my being, I allowed the booking engine to assign us seats. Guess what! (A319, A321, A319, A319; both passengers preferred; aisle preference in profile)

When I bought a ticket for Thanksgiving weekend a couple of weeks ago, the preferred row of "4" (on a 319) showed up for me and I was able to get one of those seats.

i never try and choose seats. it always assigns them for me and they're always in the preferred area -- and usually ok. then i call the chairman's desk to queue me and move me to exit rows.
united's seat maps are much better imo.

Hmmm... Well I guess I didn't notice the change. There was a thread back six months or so ago where the conclusion seemed to be that you could not get preferred seating from the web-site. I even have an email from customer service squirreled away somewhere stating that the procedure was to buy the ticket on the website, then call customer service(!). They must have snuck this one in.
Alysia, are you saying that preferred seats actually showed up as available on the seating map? Or were you just automatically assigned preferred seats?

The preferred seats just showed up when I was doing the seating part on a ticket I had just bought on usairways.com. I seem to remember all of row 4 (again, on a 319) showing up so I took 4a.

I'd be excited but I move up 97% of the time.
Actually, it is great news.

Well, actually, me too, mileshound. But a true control freak even wants to select the seats that he is going to be upgraded from.

I've always been able to get preferred seating (including exit rows) assigned on us.com. I've just never been able to select them. What I sometimes do is go to itn.net, check out the seat maps and see an open preferred seat (the green ones), then enter that seat number in the appropriate field when purchasing the tix on us.com. Upon confirmation, the seat is assigned.
OTOH, it's just easier (faster) to let the computer assign the seat and then call up reservations to change it if I don't like it.

Thought I'd dig this thread up and provide an update from this month's e-statement:
PREFERRED SEATING NOW AVAILABLE AT USAIRWAYS.COM
As of June 29, 2004, Preferred members can now select Preferred seat assignments at usairways.com.

In the good old days, Priority Travel Works did this as well as displaying (without going through the whole booking process) the full seat map.

Unsure of the implications of the preferred seating available on usairways.com upon row 1 on the A330.
Placed a saver award on hold yesterday and it allowed me (US2) to select row 1 both ways. But after placing the reservation on hold, next to the transatlantic flight under 'seat' was written 'check-in at airport'.
Not believing my luck (and before I read A320 EOW's previous post) I rang the Euro DMSC. I was told that it was a fault with the website and I would not get those seats!
Now having read A320 EOW's previous post, I am starting to think that *just perhaps* I spoke to an uninformed agent.

Wow, this is an old thread.
When I booked a flight a week ago, it allowed me (a Silver) to select Exit Row seats (they showed up as pink in the seating chart, I believe), along with other Premium seating. Nice feature.
Maybe even cooler, I was able to select seats for a UA flight (US flt #) and even choose an Economy Plus seat!
Its not entirely flawless, as a printout made at the end of purchase tell me to check in with UA at the airport for seat assignment, but my Existing Reservations shows me still with the same seats chosen for both airlines. I plan to call and double-check (with UA especially).
Now if they could just allow us to change seats online after purchase, this website could really be coming along!

I agree. I couldn't change my existing reservations online. They are halfway there...

Interesting. I have been able to pick preferred/exit rows through my Highwire-based corporate booking engine for at least 1-2 years. Recently it has been denying my requests. Hmmm.

And that old circa 1995 program still worked better than the current website!

adam, I could use that number here in Germany. I assume it is not a toll free number (as few of them are) Could you send it to me? If it is not a German number, where might I find that number. (I admit I have not contacted US Air about this yet)
Thanks
