View Full Version : Mileage Run?

i'm thinking of doing a mileage run in mid- to late-September. the cheapest I can seem to do for a huge # of status miles (23000 or so...) is to go to the west coast and nest a west coast/Europe flight in the middle.

can do it for about $800 or so. any other thoughts for a cheaper alternative?

*sigh* i wish usairways flew to singapore.

edited to add -- can't seem to clear a transatlantic upgrade anywhere in advance--for all the heavy europe travelers, which sectors are best to clear 3 days out or at the gate-- i'm looking at doing LAX-PIT/CLT/PHL-LGW R/T for the cheapest fares.

Anything with an A330 would be better for standying by for Envoy ... Manchester may be your best bet truth-be-told ...

I ran the numbers -- if you start at a non-hub there are at least 17,952 base miles in that run. That's assuming the 500 mile minimum and without double connections getting to PHL...

For instance:

MHT -> PHL 500
PHL -> SFO 2,521
SFO -> PHL 2,521
PHL -> MAN 3,434
MAN -> PHL 3,434
PHL -> SFO 2,521
SFO -> PHL 2,521
PHL -> MHT 500
======
17,852

By my calculations such a mileage run should be capable of making you an instant CP (with 7,000+ miles left over...) And that's without going for a triple by buying a Y fare.

If you start out in FL or LA then you could do even better...

I don't think that you're getting out enough.

I haven't priced it out but I do sort of like the ring of Manchester to Manchester http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

IF the new Philly bonus counts for tickets connecting through Philly and not just originating or departing from Philly, that would work (which it probably does, but I wouldn't count on it until you can confirm for sure) ... if not, that itinerary would come up a little short and you'd need to Get Out a little More than that ...

Considering you're in PHL already, I'd think you could probably do just as well with two Transatlantic trips and it would really be easier on you anyway ...

I'm Gold after qualifying in 2001. However, my travel patterns this year have limited me to two US flights thus far this year. I am seriously considering a SFO turn and nested Europe trip also.

For anyone interested and able to do it, B fares originating out of LGW start at $608 to NYC and $672 to the west coast. CDG to ORD starts at $641. Those would be helpful for the new SWU.

It would work if it was done today...

You'd need 3 -- or something with a lot more distance than PHL -> MAN.

PHL-MAN/LGW probably wouldn't be quite enough, but I'd have to assume that kv99 is starting with *something* in his account to begin with ... Between Get Out More, AMEX, and the new Philly bonus any two R/T across the Atlantic should get you close enough unless they're your only two R/T's of the year.

I think you'd be much better off doing that than flying out West then back East, plus the timing should really work out better anyway ... you could do two Transatlantics in a weekend with no problem, West Coast then T/A from the West Coast would take at least three days, maybe a bit more (if you left on a Friday night, you could be back home on Monday morning if you take a red-eye on your final flight). It is more miles of course ... but it's a tough bunch of miles! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

West is better. Too many min stay restrictions across the atlantic.

I'm all set with MCO in Sept and LGW in Oct, but can always be convinced to join in on the transcon fun if anyone is making a run.

If we do this, we'll have to make sure it's on a 321 or 757 to ensure we have our own private club going. SEA's always a cheap enough run. But with me having 2 of the old SYS upgrades expiring end of January, I'd almost rather burn them before Oct. 31 on an Envoy to the old country.

If its a party let me know, i could be interested in a transcon mileage run too.

Yes, Beckles is right. I am actually half-way to Chairman's so even one transatlantic would get me pretty close w/the current scheme! Just trying to avoid a push to make it at the end of the year that's all...

I just thought of the west-coast/ transatlantic mileage run might be a fun way to build up my account balance in a struggling airline http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Beckles the advantage of west-coast transatlantic for me as opposed to transatlantics is that upgrades are much easier to come by (and free...) on transcons than transatlantics.

I, too, am trying to complete the CP requirements. As an added incentive, Customer Service told me that if the 100K tier is met prior to the end of October, 2002, a CP kit (w/Envoy upgrades) will be issued for this year as well as the next.

Right, but I wouldn't get it because I'm already CP.

Upgrading will be interesting if this gets off the ground. Can I be a CP's companion????

Thought I have a stack of NAU vouchers and two 1 hour in advance upgrade coupons that would cover the whole trip.

Also, if we can get a few more people on board for this weekend, should we start a new thread with the dates and flights, etc?

Great. My CP qualifying flight is 10/7 - in Envoy on the 330!!!!! I will also 2 graduate new silvers on the flight. Would a ceremony in the club be inappropriate?

MaineFlyer,
Please delete most of that post. Nobody can confirm whether the bonuses will actually post if you leave all the details for god-knows-who to see!
Thanks.
