Whats the deal on the Gold challenge? I'd like to get my parents signed up, as they have an upcoming transcon flight. I'm amazed at the fact they don't make us aware of this. I just missed gold last year, and had to put in my 60 legs to get it this year (which I just did last week). Sure would be nice to see a Chairman's challenge. ....sigh..40 more legs over the next 10 weeks, drag...

Ususally, the Gold Challenge is that you have to fly 12,500 miles (preferred miles only - while class of service bonus counts - no other one does) in the designated time period. Assuming you fly that in the requisite time, US will give you Gold status for the rest of the year. Same deal for Silver as the threshold is only 6,250 miles. There is no challenge for Chairman's.

There may be a segment based challenge - and if so, I'd assume it would be one-quarter of the segments required (e.g. 8 for silver) - but I do not know if a segment based challenge exists.

And as noted above, you'll need to call the DM Service Center to sign up.

Be interested in any info regarding segment basis for the challenge. My wife may finally hit a tier w/ US and that would make her feel like part of the club!

Just signed up the family for our flights PHL-FRA-PHL in July - easy! The requirement is 6250 miles or 10 segments for Silver and 12500 miles or 16 segments for Gold.

I just called and was told that this is a targeted promotion and could not be signed up. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif The CSR however did sign me up for the same promotion only for the 1 Oct. to 31 Dec. timeframe. This seems a bit early for a challenge for Q4.
Does anyone have the codes for the current challenge?

Thanks

Signed my wife up for the Silver Challenge-- Code is P0207. She will make silver with our trip to MAN this week.

Does the July-September Challenge give you elite status through February 2003 or 2004?

I would assume the 4th quarter challenge (October-December) would be good through 2004.

Am I wrong?

Like they say, try try again. I called back and spoke to another CSR. She signed me up no problem. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I verified the following codes;

P0207 for July 1 to Sept. 30
P0210 for Oct. 1 to Dec. 30

Do the challenges work for those who already have status? There is no way I'll be able to hit 50K flight miles this year to maintain Gold though will fly over 12,500 miles in the next 3 months. Surely it must be impossible for me to use the challenge..

Yes it is. If you were Silver and wanted to get to Gold, you could use this. But since you're already Gold, you're left at their mercy.

But is it true that they will only drop a preferred member's status only one level the next year? If you're CP they'll make you Gold the next year if you haven't flown enough and if you're Gold, they'll make you Silver?

As of now, yes it is true. Only one level drop.

Gold is much easier this year.
Fly 12 segments 7/15 - 10/31 - min 6K preferred miles.
Fly 12 segments 7/15 - 10/31 - 20K preferred miles bonus.
Get BOA Platinum Visa, charge 25K by 12/31 (you can buy bonds, transfer to 0% CC offer) 10K preferred.

So with 12 flights you have a min of 36K preferred miles. You have 30K preferred bonus miles for the taking. And if those 12 flights were shuttle flights during the 3K promo, you are at 48K (if combinable).

This sounds about right. When I made silver via challenge last year, the Silver status was only valid until 2/02. If someone knows any wat around this, please post. I should be able to get silver back with one trip-- thru challenges and bonuses of course. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

OK, so for now, they will only drop your elite level one level per year. So if your're Chairman's Preferred, does that mean you really have preferred status for at least the next 3 years, even if you don't fly more than 25,000 miles each year?

Last year I did the gold challenge from July-September and received a Gold Card good until Feb. 2003. Which meant it was good for almost 19 months. I know if you do the challenge before July it is only good until Feb. the next year.

The challenge is a great marketing tool and I have 53,000 preferred miles this year and with bonuses may try for CP.

Everyone be sure to check out the 20k mile bonus code offer:

Fly 4 Segs and earn 4,000 bonus miles
Fly 8 Segs and earn another 6k bonus miles
Fly 12 Segs and earn another 10,000 bonus miles.
That's a total of 20,000 bonus miles that count toward preferred status, good through February, 2004!

Combine this with a gold/silver challenge, and a transcon will get you preferred. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Don't miss out!

No need for a transcon. The 12 segments will net you a min. of 6K preferred miles - 500 per flight - under the normal rules.

Normal 6K preferred + 20K preferred bonus = 26K preferred = Silver.

Actually as I think about this, isn't the normal Silver challenge 12 segments? If so, this really benefits those trying to requalify (SP,GP,CP) or make the push to Gold or CP (although to gold from silver could be done w/ 16 segemts via challenge).

True. But since I'm stuck way out here on the left coast, I'm in a transcon mindset. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

And under the challenge = gold. (>12,500 preferred miles.)

Silver Preferred* To qualify for membership, fly 25,000 Preferred Miles or 30 Preferred Segments in 2002.

Gold Preferred* To qualify for more exclusive benefits, fly 50,000 Preferred Miles or 60 Preferred Segments in 2002.

Chairman's Preferred* To qualify for the most prestigious level of membership, fly 100,000 Preferred Miles or 100 Preferred Segments in 2002.

Not the challenge mind you, just normal rules for preferred. Hope this helps.

OK, mileshound has inspired me. My company has stopped flying my carcass around the country for the time being, but with the promotions CP is actually within reach for just a few hundred dollars. Questions: 1) does anyone know for sure whether the Triple Preferred Mile bonus on the Shuttle is combinable with the 12 segment/20K Preferred mile bonus? I can't find any boilerplate fine print excluding it. 2) I know it's early, but does anyone non-targeted have first hand experience with the "targeted" Double Preferred Mile bonus over in the "official" thread? Also, 3) I've read a bit about the Savings Bond purchases but do not see anything conclusive whether this works with the US Airways BOA card. Does anyone have the final dilly on this, yo?

Biggs, Tom Bascom, deelmakur step aside. There's a new CP on the block.

ATC,

Go for it.

There are zillions of threads in milesbuzz about the bond purchase. It basically is a purchase and not a cash advance. Just make sure you have a high enough credit limit on the card(s) you are transferring to. Those cards should be 0% for 6 months. I have not done this but understand the theory. It gets more complex when you figure in EE vs I bonds, the annual max on those, and weather you buy at the beginning or end of the month.

I believe the double preferred miles starts today so earlies those would post is Tues or Wed night.

My math was also done without the 3x shuttle and the 2x prefered bonuses. I wouldn't count on it, but imagine if these all combined....

Call back during business hours 8-5 M-F to speak to a CS rep; they'll put the code in manually for you. Doublecheck and have them read the offer terms back to you.

Welcome to the club. I just made Gold for next year the hard way with 61 segments and even with all the preferred bonuses will still have to be on a lot more Dash 8 flights because I will not get it on miles. The status has helped on the few long flights I have had with FC seats and extra nice service from the FA and comments from the gate/ticket agent. BTW, coming back from MSP the ticket agent told me that for being such a small station she has 6-7 CPs looking for upgrades all the time. Must be true since I did not clear the waitlist and I was #1 and noticed other CPs getting in the back.

It should be no problem with getting miles for saving bonds (extra kid's savings) which I have done using my AMEX. Easy to do online. Also it looks like you can get the extra preferred bonuses on top of each other so I look forward to the final list when you are near the top of the "Prince of Pain" list rather than down at the bottom with the rest of us Dash 8 and Beech 1900 lovers http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif.

I signed up for the gold challenge in late June for the qualifying period of 7/1 to 9/30. From 7/1 to date I have accrued a little over 13,000 preferred miles, but my account still reflects silver (the status I had). Do they do a "sweep" at the end of the period (i.e., 9/30) or should it post immediately. I am reluctant to call DM because I certainly do not want to draw attention to my account in light of the recent postings ;-).
Thanks.

The system will not automatically upgrade your status upon completion of the challenge. When you sign up for a challenge, it is recorded as a note on your DM account. Thus, the computer won't automatically upgrade your status after completing a challenge. The only way you can get your status upgraded is to call the service center.

If you don't want to risk attention drawn to your account, you'll have to wait until you cross the 50,000 mile or 60-segment mark to get Gold status. Honestly, I don't think you'll have too much trouble by calling.

Sorry for the harsh reality!

I received conflicting stories about this. I hope someone can clear this up. Must you have actually flown 12,500 for the gold challenge, or is it simply 12,500 preferred miles (including the bonuses?)

planeluvr
Aug 6, 02, 8:29 pm
When I qualified on the gold challenge last year you had to fly 12,500 actual miles during the challenge no matter what other preferred miles you earned. When I passed the 12,500 threshold it automatically upgraded my status to gold. It may have changed since then, but with all of the bonuses it is doubtful anyone even needs to sign up for a silver or gold challenge.

I just registered my father for the Silver/Gold challenge by calling the Dividend Miles service center and requesting P0207. The representative immediately said she would sign him up, and said status will be good through February 28, 2004.

She didn't mention whether US Airways will be. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I have been told by the service center in the past that it can be done over any 90 day period. In practice I've seen it to be true. If they question you about that when you call, just tell them you were told in a prior call that it is good for any 3 month period, and all you were supposed to do was call back when you completed the necessary terms. That should do the trick.
