View Full Version : Go for CP or AA Platinum?

Just made US Airways Gold, but it now looks like I have to decide between more US Air flights to reach CP and stay AA Gold, or more AA flights to reach Plat and stay US Gold.

I tend to fly a lot of US Express and Shuttle, so the CP upgrade policy doesn't seem to offer so much to me. And I like trading upgrade certs for miles.

But going for CP means MANY more bonus miles via the current promo bonanza.

Any other considerations? What would you do?

Well you said it's not that big of a deal to you, but it's been a whole lot tougher for me to upgrade to First Class than in the past as a gold. Increasingly I have to wait at the gate to clear, and I've even found myself in the back on flights which I wanted to upgrade (granted, the most recently was a TPA-DCA, and I had the 319 exit, so it is more symbolic than anything).

If you're happy enough as a gold, I'd encourage you to go for AA Platinum. AA Plat compared to AA Gold will make for a much better travel experience on AA than US CP over Gold would on US Airways.

Much depends on where you fly and also future prospects. I would go with AA because as a Platinum, you get to use the OneWorld lounges at great partners like British Airways and Cathay Pacific and lastly, AA has not mentioned bankruptcy- yet!?!?.

However, if you fly domestically, US CP would offer better upgrading although I think their first class product has really gone down compared to AA. Not too excited about US and their Airbus 319 or 320 for 4 hours.
