US Airways Launches Caribbean Codeshare With Nevis Express

ARLINGTON, Va., June 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- US Airways introduces a new codeshare agreement with Caribbean regional airline, Nevis Express, starting July 15, 2002 offering daily connecting service to the new destinations of Nevis and St. Kitts, via San Juan.

Available for purchase immediately, the codeshare provides travelers with the convenience of a single ticket between the U.S. and Nevis or St. Kitts, with through check-in, including a boarding pass for the connecting codeshare flight, and baggage checked through to the final destination.

The agreement also provides affiliation through US Airways' Dividend Miles frequent traveler program, enabling travelers to earn and redeem miles on all Nevis Express flights, including those operated under the codeshare.

Nevis Express services, operated with 19-seat Beech 1900 aircraft, will link with US Airways daily flights serving San Juan from its Charlotte and Philadelphia hubs, together with weekend service from Pittsburgh.

The destinations of St. Kitts and Nevis are located in the northern part of the Leeward Islands, and are popular for diving and snorkeling, fishing, hiking and golf. In addition to the codeshare flights, US Airways will begin new weekly nonstop service between Philadelphia and St. Kitts, starting Dec. 7, subject to foreign government approval.

US Airways' codeshare agreement with Nevis Express is part of the carrier's GoCaribbean initiative, a major cooperation and marketing venture announced earlier this month. Under this initiative, US Airways is also currently finalizing agreements that will enable two other regional Caribbean carriers, Caribbean Star Airlines and WINAIR (Windward Island Airways) to provide flight connections linked with existing US Airways Caribbean gateways.

Other elements of the GoCaribbean program are expected to be added during the summer and fall this year. The GoCaribbean initiative plans to offer additional service to 14 island destinations.

US Airways currently serves the following 16 Caribbean destinations: Antigua, Aruba, Barbados, Bermuda, Cancun, Cozumel, Grand Bahama Island, Grand Cayman, Montego Bay, Nassau, San Juan, Santo Domingo, St. Croix, St. Lucia, St. Thomas and St. Maarten. US Airways Express also serves North Eleuthera, Governors Harbour, Marsh Harbour and Treasure Cay from Florida.

I'm so glad they are working on Caribbean code shares. These are huge revenue generators for USAir becuase so many people pay full fare to fly there on business. Pretty soon they'll be flying to more destinations in the Caribbean than they do West of the Mississippi.

Maybe some proactive planning would have prevented the mess that they are currently in. Recall the arrogance after BA bailed them out a number of years ago.

Well, heck, even if you toss in Denver, they've only got 8 destinations that are truly out West.
