I need the triple miles to get gold! I'll make silver otherwise...
Are there exact words in the offer? (for those who actually got the offer...) Thanks!

Actually I was wondering what the words in the "quick gold" promotion were.

Ususally the triple miles don't count for a challenge - at least they did not when I was US had the Double Tier Miles promotion in 2000 - the tier miles counted for yearly status, but not for the challenge. It could have chnaged, but I doubt they'd do that.

What's neat about the promo is that instead of going nonstop from DCA to BOS on the shuttle, you could try to go DCA-LGA-BOS, and thus get 6,000 miles instead of 3,000.

That actually qualifies for a decent mileage run (albeit by US Airways standards--we don't have a Singapore in our system).

There are frequent $129 fares between DCA and BOS. You could rack up 6,000 tier miles in an afternoon. Add in the quirky US Airways UNIVAC bonus largesse factor, and you might hit the jackpot.

Am I correct in my reading of this that Shuttle flights between BOS and DCA are NOT eligible for this promotion? It sounds to me like you need to fly through LGA somehow. Too bad since I have a couple BOS-DCA direct flights booked. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

Has anyone received 3x tier miles for BOS-DCA?

That's the way I read it. BOS-DCA non-stops are not eligible. A connection in LGA makes it all good.

How about LGA-BOS-DCA? I'd love to do that on my LGA-DCA trips this month!

I have been trying without success to find a fare that low between BOS and DCA. I priced out a number of trips (including Saturdays); the lowest available for a same day jaunt was about $170. Same-day trips on Fridays was coming up at around $450.

Heck, with taxes, the Saturday special to LGA from DCA is $128.50.

To get cheapest shuttle fares, you must book at least a week in advance and in between 10am and 2pm weekdays and after 7 on weeknights.

Have anyone found either:
1. Fares in the BOS>DCA market that allow a connection in LGA as part of the valid routing? Usually when I try to force a LGA connection, it prices out higher. But there have been one or two times when it has remained stable as far as price; or
2. At the airport when booked on BOS>DCA or DCA>BOS, will the airport agent ever rebook you to allow the LGA connection instead of the nonstop? I know they do this with xld flights, but has anyone gotten this done on a pax voluntary/requyest vbasis?

Sorry to dredge this thread up again, but I don't think the subject question was ever clearly answered. Broadening it a bit, it could be re-phrased as "Do Preferred Miles obtained through a bonus or promotion count towards status on a Preferred Challenge?"

Here's evidence that the answer is yes.

The passenger was a new Dividend Miles member enrolled in a 6,250 mile Silver Challenge expiring 6/30. The new Silver Preferred status showed up automatically (without a phone call). Normally the BOS-SEA RT miles would not be enough to meet the challenge. The extra Preferred Miles came from a class of service bonus on the PIT-SEA leg--they were enough to squeak him over the top. Not bad for a $155 RT fare. And US Airways gets another fanatically loyal customer.

Here's evidence that the answer is no.
I received e-mail notification that I was automatically enrolled in a challenge to renew Silver Preferred status (challenge period from February 11 - May 10, 2002).
The "small print" at the bottom of the e-mail said, in relevant part, "Not valid with bonus mile offers that count toward earning Preferred Status. . ."

Kinda like the typical bonus miles offer boilerplate that says "Offer only valid for addressee. Offer valid with the purchase of adult fares. Offer not valid with any other targeted flight bonus mile offer..."? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

ATC,
There wasn't a question, at least in my mind, about the class of service bonus counting towards the challenge status miles. The answer has always been yes.

The question is about promotions and special double tier miles. Things like the shuttle 3x status miles, last year's 2x status for NC/GA residents and the BOA double tier miles promotions. These are short term programs where the COS bonus is business as usual. These special programs/promotions have not historicially counted towards the Silver/Gold challenges - and the computer has been able to calculate as described.

I don't want to leave this thread with conflicting guidance: mileshound, USHARE, and CLTFlyer are correct. The triple preferred mile bonus does NOT count towards a challenge. The much-beloved US Airways computer surprisingly differentiates between bonus preferred miles and class-of-service miles. Sorry for the confusion.
