The only one way mileage based upgrade awards are 10,000 miles and only apply if the fare is ticketed in -Y- or -B- class. You can use the 20,000 mile r/t upgrade award ( booking codes M/H/Q/K/V except V transatlantic) for one way if you like..just know you forfeit the return if unavailable.

If you are a dividend miles member and obviously you are, you can upgrade with miles if you want to lock in today and you have no use for miles. (not a good choice). Dividend miles can upgrade at counter for $50. Many agents look stupefied, but tell them you wish to purchase an 800 mile upgrade. Dividend preferred can buy them for less. The last time I needed any I bought a book of 4 for $120 (that was app April or May of this year). Obviously they're good for 800 mile legs. Over 850 miles means you have to fork over 2. The 10,000 mile upgrades are good anywhere in North America but that's an expensive way to blow miles. Good luck!- Skip
