Coming back through BDL-CLT-RDU yesterday was different. First, they changed the security screening area at terminal A at BDL so that the food places are beyond security now with a very long Disney line maze to get to the machines. When I arrived the line went past the Sheraton but luckily it took longer to follow the maze than get through screening when I was leaving.

They announce prebroading for extra assistance and no one gets up, then FC & Preferred as I waited for the sacrifical lamb and they took the 2nd guy with the t-shirt. Got into my FC seat and ordered a ginger ale and watched the boarding. FC took a while to fill up and seats were still empty with 5 minutes to departure. The FA is having a discussion with the mechanic and says "that is not in my manual and do you want me to show you". They apparently resolve the dispute.

The gate agent comes on and makes an announcement about someone may have picked up the wrong DL and BP at the gate screening. A guy gets up from coach and goes out and comes back. We are still at the gate. I hear the FAs talk about how 2 people have lost their DL at the gate screening and there is confusion because the guy from coach apparently found his but another pax was still out his. One FA debates on whether they will allow the guy to fly while the gate agent says yes because he already passed screening (what about a connection?). Another gate agent comes on and says that the pax is upset since someone carried off his DL and ticket. The security screener comes on and ask to go back to coach to find someone and apparently finds the woman who had carried off the DL and ticket folder. The gate agent comes back and asks about the count because she is short a ticket and goes back to the seat and find the pax with the BP stub so they determine they had collected the ticket and will resolve it later. I then see the nabbed Preferred t-shirt guy take his FC seat in front of me and they close the doors while the FA gently commiserates about the DL fiasco.

Then we have a ATC delay and sit at the end of the runway. We land late and I do an OJ through CLT. Horrors of horrors, I did not clear the waitlist and I did not see [b} geo [b] in my seat. The plane is packed and we have a delay while the mechanic signs off the paperwork and another delay while ATC accepts the new flight plan.

Morale of the story-watch your DLs along with your laptops at the gate (or carry a second DL). Also someone is taking my FC seat http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif.

DL = Driver's License?

How does one lose a drivers license? If I get selected for Special Preboarding Treatment I usually get it and my boarding pass back before being led behind the curtain, don't I?

I picked up a badge holder with a thing that holds it around my neck. Stuck my ID in it. Nothing gets lost that way. One side benefit. At Las Vegas, I stumble into the Cinnabon joint just before the redeye goes. The lady sees the thing around my neck, asks if I work for an airline, and offers 30% off if I do. Shamelessly, I say nothing, and take the discount.

I picked up someone else's DL at the XRay machine in DCA on Sunday. It was just sitting there right in front of the agents and no one in fron or behind me. I gave it to security as I knew that guy wouldn't be boarding without. (Should have given it to Ticket Agent at the counter now that I think about it). Thought it wierd that DL was on the luggage screener, or at the end of it. Someone must have put it down to pick up their bags. Sounds like a fun trip. The Friday eve. flights from CLT to ILM always so packed even 5-6 Chairman's Preferred lacking upfront seats on both flights.
