The demo isn't doing anything special for me. I am also hesitant that it has to be installed.

It's okay, but i like the overall interface of the fare checker on Travelocity or Expedia if I want to browse a bunch of airlines at once, and then widdle down to the dates that fit my desired fare.

There's no customization, or at least the type that I'd like to see. Instead of checking a box or telling it that you only want a single airline you have to wait for it to search all of them and then do a sort by airline and scroll to find the one you want. If I'm out price shopping then it's so-so, but overall it seems rather dumbed down and limited.

I'm just not a fan of anything that has an install/uninstall option. Even for 200 MyPoints.

It uninstalls quite easily, if that helps.

Quite true, and a good thing too. It's rubbish.
It's Windoze only. It's IE only. It spewed forth lots of Java errors within a minute of my installing it. Their support people told me I'd have to change my browser settings to stop it crashing.
The whole idea of the internet is to allow people from many places, using many types of machines, to communicate. Software that requires a particular operating system is unfortunate but understandable, considering Windoze ubiquitous nature. Software that requires a particular browser is hopeless. Software that not only requires a particular browser but also particular cache settings is just pathetic.

Can't do one ways, open jaws, or much international. Nor can it look at First and Business. Try QIXO.com Meantime, it's cute the way it locks on to some other search engines when it detects you using them, with
a side by side comparison. With all this "spyware" everybody is dropping these days,at the risk of being labled a conspiracy theorist, it does makes you wonder what else is in there.

What I actually find ironic, and quite funny, are the results I've obtained from Sidestep.
US Airways has been pushing sidestep on their website, through MYPOINTS, and in-flight. Yet, the last four itineraries about which I've inquired have directed me to much lower fares on OTHER carriers. I fly from BWI, so that may not apply to people in other markets. I just find it funny that they are pushing it so hard, and it's directing business to other airlines.
Maybe Mr. Wolf is right. Status quo is not an option for US Airways, if their partner products are directing business elsewhere!
As a review, I'm an IE5 user on WIN98, and have had no software problems yet. It's been smooth. And while looking for a couple of US Airways itineraries, I found some great deals on Continental and Delta. :-)

Wow ... I must say I never liked this tool much, but maybe they've changed it recently? I guess for hotel's it's good in that it goes to each hotel chain's website, but Orbitz has pretty much replaced it's functionality for me on the airline side.

I just read that SideStep installs spyware on your PC and transmits info about sites visited to somewhere. Possible Spam magnet!

Unforunately I can't remember where I read it. But the same article recommended AdAware and a coupla other programs to search for such intrusions. I think it might have been last Sunday's Philly Inquirer. The article didn't recommend any free spyhunters, it talked about keystroke loggers and such also. I specifically remember them calling out SideStep as having a spyware module.

Spybot should take care of it;

I'm sure there are others too, but it's worked well for me.

It use to be that you had to download Sidestep. Then it would only work with Internet Explorer. And each time you'd do a search on another site, it would pop up and provide along side comparisons uninvited. I finally removed it but do not remember how. Think I just stopped it from loading on boot up.
Today you can use it by going to www.sidestep.com without loading anything. It often finds bargains that others miss and does not add a booking fee.
Usually however I can match or beat its airfares. It has a vacation package search that seems excellent and an activities search that is interesting.
So where I never liked the old, I will try the new from time to time. For removal help, try the Travel Technology forum. Where removal may be slightly off topic, there are real tech savvy FTers there.

Kayak what is this one never heard of it. Also SideStep I use just to search for the flights I want.. usually by one way routes, then find the cheapest with the best times and shortest layovers. The I take this information to the direct Airline website and book each ticket there. It is cheaper then going through SideStep. I noticed on my last one.. SideStep charged $6.00 extra per ticket then if I was to order the same flight on the direct airline site. PLUS sideStep (orbitz) wanted an additional $18.00 at cheack out saying this deal was only with a printed ticket and it would cost this additional to have the tickets mailed to me. So for me and on this instance going direct to the Airlines with the specific flights I saved. $30.00 then booking direct through sideStep (Orbitz)
