What is your corporate discount and can you use it for personal travel? Mine is over 30+% and we can not use it for personal travel.
Isn't this just a starfile code? Is it in the corporate contract that it is business only or is it your company's policy? Is there a way we can take advantage of these discounts that are within the rules?

i worked for a company for some time that had a 35%+ discount with us. we were permitted to use it for personal use for ourselves, and any companion on the same itinerary... we had to pay a fee of $25/ticket to the travel agency. no big deal.

it is just a masterfile# and i suppose if you know the # and get a cooperative agent, you could do it that way though i've never tried.

I can book a ticket for personal travel using my corporate discount for myself only.

There is an $18 fee, but that is usually offset with the 30-40% discount (and more in some markets)! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

It really depends on the deal your organisation negotiates with the airline. At my last company (a big-5 accounting house) we received circa 40% discount, but it was valid for business travel only. All of our travel was booked in paid C or paid F.

At my current employer (large IT consultancy) we travel predominantly in Y, with a roughly equal split between discount Y and full fare Y. We receive circa a 30% discount with our preferred carrier, around a 20% discount with other carriers. In all cases, these discounts are extended to personal travel as well for employees and their immediate families, and we're actually encouraged to book our personal travel through the corporate travel office. Obviously, the more travel spend that flows through our corporate travel office, the greater discounts we can secure in the future.

It's called a Gold File number, and I am allowed to book through my company travel agency or directly with the airline. The number is located on the printed ticket receipt in the top center, usually with 'GF' preceeding a series of numbers.

We get 31% of any published roundtrip fare of at least $200. My upcoming PHL-LAX trip is $178 because I nabbed it when the sale had published tix around $250. It especially comes in handy when those Europe sales come around in the $300-$400 range.

We only get a nominal discount from our airline partners and we can't use it for personal travel at all.. Expressly forbidden....

US really screws alot of PIT-based companies and organizations.

I am told that when our organization (roughly 10,000 people) tried to negotiate "a deal" with US, they declined to do so. The rationale from them was 'who else are you going to choose'?

Maybe your company should reorganize in the Cayman Islands and answer the "who else" question with AA :-)

Perhaps your company should negotiate with a non-PIT hub carrier. You might find the deals better....oh, I forgot, perhaps people in PIT (and other hubs) fly the hub airline because they go everywhere and the convenience factor is worth something....could that be it?

My company has a great deal from IND-CLE (on NW via DTW). Something like $180.00 roundtrip - even for same day outbound/return travel. Great deal.

I asked them and they said I couldn't use the fare (since they book the fare on the account that travel department uses (a central credit card/billing account) and not a regular credit card (like my own).
