Looking for some advice from some experienced FTers:

Fiance and I are planning our Honeymoon. It's a ways off (5/28/03 to 6/4/03). I don't have a ton of miles, but I have enough for 1st and that is what we want. Currently, they are flying 2 class planes BOS-PHL-STT and back. 60,000 miles per person. I thought that I read they may begin to fly the A330 on Caribbean routes. Assuming they are not scheduled to use them when we get the tickets, but they change to the A330 after we've been ticketed, but before our trip, how can we ensure getting the seats in F? Can we burn 80k per ticket and then if when we fly it is a two class plane we get 20k back per person? I've never flown a A330 before (My European trips to date have been Envoy 767), Is it worth it? It is our honeymoon and my fiance doesn't fly much so I wanted to get the best possible.

On a related subject when would you call for these tickets? June 29th, July 3rd, July 4th, and July 10th all seem to be appropriate dates depending on where you count 330 days. Do I even have to worry about itor do the flights to the Caribbean not fill up like the Qantas flights?

As always, your thoughts and opinions are appreciated.

If you want to go to STT, they won't be flying the A330 there, and I'd actually recommend staying away from anywhere they'd fly the A330 (or 767, which they are flying to NAS this summer) to for your honeymoon, because that will by definition mean it's probably too touristy. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

You won't have to worry about it this far in advance. Award seats don't seem particularly hard to score to the Carribean.

Don't worry about the A330 to STT. As Beckles points out, it won't be going there. The A320 series that is beginning to serve to Carribean is, IMHO, the perfect plane to take there. The FC seats are perfectly comfortable, the service will be about as good as a transcon FC flight (sans sundaes however). Also, consider that 60k miles from the east coast of the US to the Carribean is quite a lot of miles. Maybe buy a pair of tickets and upgrade them well in advance with 30k each (thus you're burning only 60k instead of 120k). With the miles left over (and the one's you'll earn) you will have enough for a pair of coach tickets back to the Carribean or even a pair of off-peak FC domestic flights? Just a thought.

The only Caribbean destination you'll see the A330 will be to San Juan. LOTS of cruise passengers, as witnessed on my recent return trip from there.

I agree with the others - purchase coach tix and upgrade in advance with miles. F on the A330 is nice, but on the Caribbean routes it's no different service than the Envoy pax - just nicer seats which you probably won't have time to really enjoy due to the <4 hour length of the flight.

I don't think the runway at STT is long enought to accommodate a 330 landing/takeoff.

It's not. It can barely handle a fully loaded 757.
