View Full Version : FC short haul meals - cold plate?

I've got 2 flights upgraded to FC in October. CLT-BOS which serves dinner and BOS-CLT that serves lunch. What's the meal on these flights? The chicken plate or some derivative?

I had several CLT/BOS dinner legs last month. They offered a choice of either hot chicken with mashed potato and onion gravy, or pizza. Dunno about lunch.

If food's your thing, you're riding the wrong bus. I fly a number of different carriers, and on a comparative basis, US is the weakest in that department. One semi interesting note. For some reason, it has always seemed to me that the PIT kitchen prepares a better meal. Maybe it's just my imagination.

I believe cold chicken plate is a snack, not a meal (lunch or dinner) ...

I flew SEA-CLT/US in F on an award on 8-31-01 & food & service were wonderful! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif But since then all airlines have been using 9-11 as an excuse to get chintzy. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

Thanks for all the quick responses. This flight will be my first on a N-S route with a main meal (not snack) offering. I imagine the meals are just main course and dessert vs. the 4-course offering on trans-cons?

I'll take your word for it (no comparisons to make) but $78 (had $90 MCO) + 20k miles is pretty hard to pass up for SEA-BOS.

FWIW, lunch in Alaska FC for flight of similar/longer distance is pretty weak. Just a sandwich platter or cold plate Alaska-SEA or v-v or salad/sandwich Canada-U.S. (longer haul than just about all US N-S routes). Just a small square of chocolate for dessert.

I'm more inclined to think it's the galley which is related to a/c type. Steaks and other food on 757s seem to come out a lot better than on A330s and 319s (haven't ventured to try steaks on 321s).

Apparently a salmon plate has started to appear as a snack, at least on the redeyes from the West Coast (wish I could tell you what it was like - I passed on it to go straight to sleep).

And I'm one of the many who have noticed the disappearance of the sundaes in F on transcons. I did have a nice cheesecake from PIT-SFO recently.

terenz: I actually have had a steak on a 321, and I honestly couldn't tell much of a difference between the one served on a 321 and the one served on a 757.

Limted experience but I had several in 2000 and 2001. Found the steaks on 330s and 319s to be tough and overcooked. Those served on the 757s were juicey and still a bit rare in the middle. Could well have been catering (ex-PHL, PIT, FRA) or perhaps the ovens in the Airbii are high power compared to those in the 757s?

My only trans-cons this yera have been breakfast flights.

At least they're serving food again; something which I consider important on early flights. Flew FLL-CLT-MCI and back last weekend -- had food in F on all 4 segments, which was somewhat surprising, as I expected to have to make a dash to the Krispy Kreme once I got into CLT. Choice on the MCI segments was an Italian chicken dish with potatoes or the pizza, both served with a salad. Going up to CLT from FLL, it was the fruit plate and bagel with a small to medium sized roast beef sandwich on the way back to FLL. AM flights to PHL out of FLL tend to be the fruit with an egg-McMuffin-type sandwich offered. They seem to be inconsistent with the linen service, some meals have it and some don't, but things at least seem more or less back to normal and they're serving drinks in glass again.

If you are talking about the salmon on the red-eye then it is probably a smoked salmon plate. I had it on a red-eye to CLT from LAX in december. It was very good and actually had it 30 mins prior to landing instead of after takeoff. Beats the chef's salad and the chicken/pasta dish they offer.

The sundae's are history for now, replaced with the cheesecake, a lactose intollerant's worse nightmare!

I want to know why I can't get Sky Mix any more, and even more troubling why there seems to always be a shortage of limes on many flights.

Anyone know if food has returned yet ORD-CLT?

On my flight last week from SEA to PHL the cheesecake was replaced with a fresh baked cookie.. They actualy did put the dough in the oven before starting the service. Smelled pretty good even, but I passed on it... The F/A's enjoyed it for me.

I also really miss the Sky Mix. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif
