I was under the impression that I could upgrade ANY flight for just 3 upgrade coupons. I have been told that only people that are called "Prefered" get these benefits. Not sure who these "Prefered" people are Not only that but these coupons cost $200 not $120 for 4 as reported. I must be reading old information but cannot find any updates here. And I thought it would be so easy.

not ANY, but pretty much any domestic/carribean flight...

That's correct. Unless you are Silver, Gold, or Chairman's Preferred, you can only use these coupons for upgrading full fare tickets.

The $120 price is for Preferred members.

It's all explained fairly clearly on the US Airways Website:

IIRC, upgrade coupons for non-elites are $50 each - upgradeable only on unrestricted fares.

Just curious to know where you (westcoastman) are getting the "old" info.

In the alternative, fly lots of miles with no food, sporadic cancellations, and a gate inspection system consulted by the Gestapo, and you too can become an elite.

PS..forgot to mention the world class baggage system which was recently selected by the government to be used in conjunction with the elimination of nuclear waste. My understanding is it will now be checked on USAirways to Philadelphia, and therefore never seen or heard of again.

OK. Then the information is not old it is just that everyone was assuming that everyone else is "Preferred." It is $200 for 4 coupons if you are not "Preferred." I don't even want to look at full fare tickets as I assume from Seattle to Philadelphia would be 3 or 4 times the low fare cost. Any other options for first? I was getting excited about flying USAir since I made the bad decision to exclusively use Delta and never, ever get upgrades because I always purchase the $200 RT Coast-Coast tickets.

Travel the 25,000 miles by year end to make SP.

If you have 20,000 miles, use a US20 award and you can be upgraded at the time of your reservation.

American Express Rewards can be converted to US Dividend Miles to help make the mileage upgrade work.
