US is holding 2 award tix for me until 1/18 to San Juan . On the return flight on 3/9 we're booked on the 930a (flight 2296), I asked if we could have a late afternoon flight back and was told "those seats have not opened up for awards yet". If I keep checking back can we change our return flight and is there a charge? (no status w/US). Does anyone know when they release seats for awards?
I checked ITN & the return flight I want listed V0. I assume V is the code for awards.
Also, anyone flown out of SJU lately who can tell me if we REALLY/Absolutely need to be at the airport 2-3 hours before departure?
Much thanks for your help!

There is no fee to change until it is ticketed. Also, V is a discounted coach class. Z is free award tickets. They are usually suppressed from ITN.

"Z" is the fare basis for domestic coach ONCE TICKETED. But the inventory you are looking for on ITN is "G".

I believe if you fly from and to the same cities, there is no charge for a change on an award ticket. You can change dates and times. You can also standby.

Isn't G a domestic first class seat?

Yes, my bad. "G" is indeed the upgrade category.

Flew to PR for a long weekend at the end of Nov./beginingo of Dec. and it took me 15-20 minutes at the ticket counter and 20-25 minutes to get thru security. Having shown up 2 hours early, and then seeing our flight delayed, all meant I'd lost valuable beach time . . . . tls
