I too just made Gold, and have a question with regard to preferred seating. I'm flying EWR-CLT next week and the flight looks pretty empty (according to ITN & seating charts). But when I called US and asked for a seat in row 5 or 6 (all looked available), I was told no, that even as Gold I couldn't get any closer than row 11--even though there were seats closer up. Is there something I'm missing? Are the first 10 rows in coach reserved for CP??

Nope, the first few coach rows are blocked for all Preferreds, not just CP.

Did you call the Gold reservation number?

I'd call again and see what happens. Keep us posted & Good Luck!

Thanks for the advise, I will try again. I called the general reservation number after I was originally given a seat in row 27!! and just asked about moving up. The US agent, actually seemed annoyed that I was requesting a different seat. Maybe I just caught him on a bad day.

Call the preferred center. World of difference in treatment. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif I had a nice fifteen minute chat with the lovely lady at Silver the other day. Oh, and I got pretty good seating out of it too.

Hmmm... just curious, did you call the Dividend Miles Preferred Service Center or the Silver Preferred Reservations phone #? I find it interesting that most of the time when I call the Gold reservations number, the agents are no different than regular reservations.
