Wondering if anyone has any fristhand knowledge of what kind of check in delays RDU is having. I have a flight out of RDU next Wednesday on US at about 1:30PM. I have meetings all morning and will likely not get to the air port til Noon.

I was at RDU last week and this. The delays are minimal at terminal A if you have a e-ticket itineary and carry on. They had an agent at the bottom of stairs checking the itineary to let you up and then at security they checked the itineary and ID and screened you. Almost as fast as usual. The checkin line was long for baggage check. If you are carrying on, it should be no problem.

At C, the lines were minimal but here the check the boarding pass at security screening and no ID but the FA (on AA) checked the ID and boarding pass prior to gettting on the plane. As always the lines at security in C are longer.

Plenty of parking at the terminal lots. But on my return this week the lots seem to be getting fuller.

An update for RDU last Friday. They opened the hourly lot by C through a vehicle search and charge you daily rates. About 6-7 police and airport security checking the vehicle. Closed today when I got back. I guess they will use it during peak times.

Went to US counter and used Preferred checkin, only 3 total in line or being served so a breeze to get boarding passes. The regular checkin line was 150 feet long. Lots of young marines shipping out. The line to get to security upstairs was crazy. I waited 20 minutes to get to the metal detectors because they funnel all the major carriers through security at the south end of Terminal A. I had a brillant idea to go to the north end where it is actually closer to the US gates and where I normally go because it is less crowded. They refused entry to all except Airtran and Southwest pax. I cannot believe they let people wait for 20-30 minutes at the other entrance when no one is in line at this entrance. It is the same terminal and security so what gives?

The gate keeper at the escalator did not look at the itineary or ticket but at security they only looked at the ticket and did not ask for ID. Normal time to get through security once there. Normal US boarding.
