I've got a trip planned that will take me to SEA and PDX. On the return, I will be taking Alaska back up to SEA from PDX and connecting to US.
I'm completely unfamiliar with the layout at SEA. How much time will I need to allow for an interline connection between Alaska and US?

Assuming you don't need to check in again, you'll need to get from the north end of the airport terminal (D/C concourse) to the south satellite (S). If you walked, it should take no more than 10 minutes from the far end of the D concourse to the S shuttle station at the main terminal (where you have to clear security), about 2-5 minutes to the S station waiting for the shuttle and getting to the station, and then about 2 minutes up the escalator to the gate from there.
US check-in counters are at the far south end of the terminal.
This is interesting b/c I have only used the north and south terminals in SEA.
Your route from Terminals C and D can depend greatly on where your AS gate is.
It is possible that if you arrive in the D Concourse, you can now go downstairs (as if you are heading to UA's North Terminal) and catch the South Satelite Shuttle/Tram. (This has just all been re-done and is still in the process of renovation, but it is coming along). But beware, b/c the hours for this Shuttle are very random and stop fairly early in the evening (7 or 8 pm). This possibility eliminates the need to go back through security.
The most logical and probably quickest route to get to the South Terminal if you going to/from the C Concourse would be to leave security, and head down past councourse B and down the escalators, re-clear security and jump on the shuttle to the South Satellite.
I would say that terenz's time estimates to be correct if there is no checking and claiming of bags.
When you are coming up the escalators in the South Terminal, the US gates will most likely be at 4-5 o'clock (behind you and to the right) S10-12.

Perhaps beckles can add some insight as he did the US-AS connection in July.

TravelWeary is another candidate: She did AS-NW (South Satellite too) 2 Sundays ago.

I have used SEA-TAC's wonderful ground transportation services but have never transited from the North to/from the South terminals. Sorry. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

USAirways is temporarily using the South Satellite, which primarily houses NW. Since they code share with AS, there is actually a shuttle bus that runs to the Satellite from Concourse C. Alaska uses C and D, which are joined inside security. Security checks are over the top at SEA-TAC, and take a long time. Using the shuttle BUS as opposed to the trams will likely eliminate the need for a second screening, since you will have already arrived in a sanitary area.

I have not attempted to ride the shuttle bus, but from the looks of it the shuttle bus is only for NW ticketed passengers, and is probably timed especially for people connecting from Horizon or Alaska to NW since they do so much codesharing.
Has anyone with a US ticket attempted to ride it?

According to the website, renovation of this shuttle link won't be be completed until 2004!

Closing a Loop -- The Link Between the North & South
Satellite Transit Trains Has Closed for Construction
The airport's Satellite Transit System includes three separate loops -- [deleted] third that runs between the transit stations for the North and South Satellites.
This third loop has closed for the modernization and upgrade of our transit
system and is scheduled to reopen in 2004. Travelers will still be able to
take transit trains from the Main Terminal to each of the satellites, but will
no longer be able to travel between the North and South Satellites by train.

I live in Seattle quite a bit of the year, and had a meeting with some people at the NW Worldclub a few weeks ago. They were leaving on Alaska, so we all rode the shuttle bus to C Concourse. Nobody asked if I had a ticket, since we were already in the secure area.
