View Full Version : US Airways club use

I thought that I read somewhere which said that Envoy class passengers can use any US Airways club on the day of travel. In other words, when I fly DCA-PHL-LGW in Envoy class, I can use the US club at DCA?

Yes, Transatlantic F and J passengers can use the US Airways Club on the day of travel.

From the US web site: http://www.usairways.com/travelguide/international/lounge.htm

That's correct! You'll simply have to show your boarding pass to the agent in the Club.

And showing the club staff your Envoy or Int'l First boarding pass should entitle you to free alcoholic beverages at the Club, should you wish to imbibe (works at least at CLT, PIT, and PHL (on the return when you can't get into the Envoy Lounge)).

Yep, make sure to ask for your drink coupons!

FWIW, the drink coupons are supposedly only given for Europe-bound legs (in lieu of an Envoy Lounge) and not for the return legs.

Interesting. I had a distinct conversation w/ a PHL Club agent and she said it didn't bother her if she had to write out drink coupons b/c it happened infrequently as people simply don't realize they can visit the US Club when traveling in Envoy... and this was on my layover coming from AMS going to SEA.

I'm not positive, but I think that the free alcohol is only available in the gateway cities that don't have a dedicated Envoy lounge (PIT and CLT). If a non-Club member starts in DCA to go through PHL to LGW, for example , he (or she!) can get into the Club in DCA, but would have to pay for drinks. Whereas if the flight goes through CLT, you would get coupons, could go to the Club, and get free drinks.

I don't know about the outbound versus inbound difference in getting the coupons.

I discovered the inbound difference on my run back from FRA in May. Lounge in question was at PIT (A concourse one in the far outlying reaches). Not 100% sure or if the lounge agent didn't want to write up a coupon or two.

Hmmm ... I received free drinks on return legs in both PHL and PIT . BUT, that was in November and February respectively, and that may have changed since.

It was still true in March in PHL on our return from Rome connecting to RDU. (We still have the drink coupons that we didn't use - maybe we can use them on a later trip?)

My husband & I have a 3 hour layover in CLT Aug.26 before our connecting flight to GSO. Is there anyway we can get into the lounge?
Don't want to get liquored up, just want to get into some comfortable seats.
Neither of us has status and are on cheapo tickets. Thanks

I can't think of any way for you to get into the Club. If you are on an international flight in Envoy, you could. When you make any status level, you get a free one-visit coupon. If you know someone there who is a Club member, you can go in as a guest. If you were really desperate, I suppose you could borrow someone's Club membership card for the day, since no ID is checked. Or, for future note, if you purchase a ticket through Travelocity (and are a preferred member with them) you get a free one-day Club pass. Sorry if none of this helps you...

rtpflyer: I would assume you can use them at any later time, either in a club or onboard a flight, since it looks like they're the same coupons they give out in those drink coupon books that you can buy. I've never purchased one of these books, but the terms and conditions on the back of the free drink coupons you get at clubs for flying envoy makes the coupons sound like they came out of a book. Also, they don't have an expiry date. Has anyone had any different experiences?

Also, FWIW, on my return from FRA last March (12th), I was able to get drink coupons in the central PIT club showing my FRA-PIT envoy boarding card, but my friend (travelling with me) was told that he could not get the coupons because it's only valid outbound. So, maybe it depends on whether the agent is feeling 1) lazy or 2) like following the letter of the rules.

On a slightly unrealated topic...

My club membership expieres at the end of this month. My travel has been greatly cut back because of a new job, so I may be doing very little travelling for a couple months. My next scheduled trip is an envoy roundtrip on 16-31 August, so I should be able to get into any club then. I also have one club pass (from my preferred kit) as a backup. So, would it not be advantageous for me to wait to renew my Club membership until the next time I travel and need it so that it is valid as far as possible into the travelling future? Does anyone see any faults in my logic?

Or maybe I should get Priority Pass??

On Club membership, I guess it depends on your status when you join up again because the price goes up from non-status to Silver to Gold. Also I do not know if there is an initiation or processing fee. So if your status will be OK for a while, it may be worthwhile to wait.

anz5708: There may be (and it may not exist anymore) one-day passes available through the club for $50 (or something like that). Otherwise, it looks like your trip may fall right after the end of US-AA Club reciprocity deal (the old members of either Admirals or USAirways Clubs could use the other's club if flying either airline that day) - so if you had an Admirals Club membership - might not help. Otherwise, can't think of a way for you to get in at all other than those outlined above.

But CLT does have the nice rocking chairs in the atrium and possibly some comfy sections between halves of the food court. Plus you may want to try to pop into Downtown Charlotte (although a 3 hour layover may not allow you that).

tfnf: Check the Club section of the USAirways site or call Club Administration for definitive answers. While there's no processing fee or intiation fee for a renewal, I can't say that if you let your membership lapse you'll not be tagged an initiation/processing fee. But if no fee - before status ends, I'd wait it out.

Anz5708,
You can check out the coupon connection for a pass also. You appear to be a very nice a generous person since you just gave away an upgrade. You could have asked for a club pass in return. I do believe in destiny, so maybe someone with an extra may return your favor. I wish I had one for you.

Mileshound, thanks for the kind words. Since the upgrade was given to me by a generous person on FT, I didn't feel "right" asking for something in return. We'll just try to nab one of those rockers in CLT and wait on our flight for 3 loonnnggg hours.

I've got a one-time Club pass that I'll never use as I have my own membership. Send me an e-mail with your name and address to mseyfang@bellsouth.net and I'll drop it in the mail.

IMHO, the CLT rocking chairs are the best places to people-watch. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif Plus, you may have some jazz musicians playing music for you.

Anz5708,
You confirmed my original impression of being kind plus you have ethics by not trying to gain from something that was given to you. US2 showed what a great community this is. We are all here to share and help each other out, not profit.
I just wish I had the pass to give you. However, by raising the point and showing you just gave away something, in my heart I knew someone would come thru for you. Spend 1/2 hour on the rocking chairs and 2 1/2 hrs in the club.

Mileshound, again you honor me with your kind words. It gives me a warm fuzzy feeling to be able to do a kindness for others.
You're correct, this is a great community and I have learned so much in the year I have been a member. I have certainly reaped more than I have sown. My thanks for all who have helped to educate me whether it be by how to earn more miles, how to determine the class of tickets, how to get the best fare, etc. or to stay away from flame wars.
If the jazz musicians are playing I will spend some time in the old rocking chair, listening, watching, smiling.

geo1004,
I'm probably as far south as you are north,
7 miles from the North Carolina line and 1 1/2 miles from the Martinsville Speedway, 60 miles south of Roanoke, 40 miles north of Greensboro, NC. and 35 miles east of Danville,VA. I live in a quiet one horse town and wouldn't want it any other way. The town is famous for building a certain type of clock, can you guess where I am? But...they're threatening to build an interstate nearby. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.
edited to ask this question, I do not frequent the UA board, why would this not have survived?

If one is flying US Award international business class on a partner airline (Swissair) and is booked F on US for the domestic legs, is USAirways Club access available for the domestic segments or just Swissair lounge access at the Gateway airports?

Very good question cef. I don't know your answer but my gut feeling is no. I would also imagine that any lounge the partner airline uses (Swissair in your case) as its business or FC departure lounge will be as good or better than the US Club... and probably closer to the gate too.

Before this thread is locked down - just found the answer to the one-day pass question. (from the US Airways Club membership information enclosed with my new card) It's $35 for a one-time pass that'll only work in the particular club (or maybe just city) you're in. For $50, you get the one-day pass that works in any US Airways Club in the system, that day.

That's it.
