I am a Silver Preferred member. So the flights that I take from now on until 10,000 miles, I will get four 800 mile upgrades. I will make gold with this upcoming challenge around mid-September. Will the miles I have flown already as a Silver member count towards me receiving those upgrades or do the miles reset to 0 and I have to earn 10,000 Gold miles to get the 8 800 mile upgrades. I would like for the miles to continue and at least get the 4 800 mile upgrades even though I will be gold. Your input is most appreciated. Thanks.

Nothing resets to 0. Whatever points you earned to get Silver will count towards Gold and utlimately Chairman's Preferred.

The 'preferred' miles(often referred to as tier miles) are reset on Jan. 1 of each year.

As for the certs - when you hit 10,000 tier miles AFTER reaching Silver, you get 4 more. If you make Gold BEFORE you hit the next 10,000 tier miles, you'll then get 8 when you eventually get it.

I guess I'm using personal experience - my wife got the Silver challenge this time around, and her tier miles are still accumulating. When I qualified for Gold this year, my tier miles are still going(70,000).

I wasn't considering the counter in terms of NA certs - just how the miles are handled. Thanks Chex.

Here's a question. If you've reached Preferred via a challenge, when does the counter begin???

For example, you flew 6,250 miles in a year to become Silver Preferred. Do you get four upgrades when you fly 10,000 miles or is it 16,250 miles?
