you can get 500 miles for doing this short 5 minute survey. At the end it asks for your dividend miles number and you get a confirmation email thanking you and telling you your miles should post in 4-6 weeks

I think this is overboard too. "Free mileage" opportunities like this have traditionally been posted in the Buzz, because many people have ff accounts on various airlines but do not read the individual airline forums.
Luckily there's the Mileage Workshop (http://www.mileageworkshop.com) though which will still have such tips organized in a usable manner.
