Okay, it seems that some of the rules changed this year, so I want to make sure I understand what is and isn't upgradeable and with what type of certs:
1. Domestic E-Savers
2. International E-Savers
3. Award Tickets
My understanding is that the rules now are:
1. Not upgradeable with any certs
2. Upgradeable only with Systemwides
3. Not upgradeable with any certs

I don't think International E-Savers are SWUable.
But if they are... anyone up for MUC???

You may be right, so basically none of those fares are upgradeable by the rules (you may still get lucky with a gate agent ...).
Unpublished fares are not upgradeable and include e-savers, award tickets, free tickets, group, cruise, tour and Priceline tickets.
If international esaver can be upgraded, Oktoberfest here we come?

I wish int'l e-savers were upgradeable - but keep seeing that language in the e-mails and the fare rules for int'l e-savers which flat out says "E-savers are not elgible for First Class Upgrades. Upgrades are valid only with published fares ..." which of course doesn't mean e-savers. Bummer.
But, has anyone been fortunate enough to get them to upgrade an int'l e-saver in advance, and not as a standby (I'm talking about since March of this year - not talking about 2000)?
If so, I see a mileage run in my (and a lot of other folks') future.
But you're right on the others.

Was fortunate to get an e-saver upgrade in April to Manchester, BUT only because the flight was full and they needed the coach seat. I didn't even bother to ask about an upgrade, but was paged to the counter at the gate in Philadelphia and was presented with new boarding passes. That's probably the only way you'll get an upgrade on an international e-saver.

My E-Saver int'l SWU experience in short... bought SEA-PHL-FRA-PHL-FRA E-saver for ~$340. Call to upgrade, reserve seats in Envoy. Get a call back... can't upgrade with SWU. Call back sometime later and was able to get seat assignment. SEA ticket agents won't issue boarding passes, I sit in coach to PHL (didn't bring 800s) and FRA. Ask FRA agent for upgrade, at 1 hour to departure they issue me Envoy boarding pass.
But from others experiences, it is nearly impossible to upgrade an int'l ESaver with a SWU.
A letter to US pleading my case w/ evidence (including the fact that I was not looking for a "first class upgrade") turned out to be very beneficial and worth sitting in coach to FRA! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif
