Hello US FTers,

I was thinking about an early December leisure trip to LAS after seeing the US "companion fare" sale today on USAirways.com. After calling in to check on the sale fares from ORF (Norfolk/Va. Beach) to LAS, I was not impressed! My ticket would have been approx. $500 and my wife's (as companion fare) would have been approx. $380.

I had a $200 US voucher that I wanted to use for leisure travel before it expired so I asked if there were any cheaper fares on about the same dates. The very capable Gold Preferred agent ("Jane") found that I could get $315 AARP RT fares for both of us on the exact flights that I had been contemplating.

I could not find any other thread on this US board that talked about the actual AARP fares on US. I plan to check on the AARP fares in the future. A note of caution to any of you "young folks", the agent did record my AARP number.

Cheers,

Do you get Dividend miles with the AARP fare?

Hello FTers,

In answer to Chemist's question, "Yes" you do get Div. miles and upgrades are allowed using the US rules like any other regular paid fare (The Gold agent did check on this when I asked about it).

I believe the AARP program is relatively new with US Air. There is some mention of it, including the number to call, on the AARP site. Can't book these fares on-line and they do take your AARP number. I am not a member (to young), but suggested this to my stepmother. I figured she might get 10% off or something. She called and the AARP fare (EWR-CLT) was about 45% off the lowest available fare I could find for the same flights! Great deal!
