Seems like they gave up too easily - especially if MassPort is going to allow "other" commercial carriers to serve it.

ridiculous - Shuttle Air (I think that was their name) can serve Bedford but not US? That's rich NIMBYS for you, opposing turboprop service because of noise!

Dear Ms. Thomson,

I write to express my dismay that USAirways has chosen not to initiate service from Bedford, MA's Hanscom Field. The airfield is ideally located to serve the thousands of residents in Boston's western suburbs, and the groups who are protesting its use on historical and noise pollution grounds have a shortsighted view of the needs of commercial aviation in the 21st century. I've oft considered flying BED-TTN on Shuttle America instead of my weekly trips BOS-PHL on USAirways. Smaller airports are much more pleasant to travel through than Logan, and Hanscom is closer to my home - by as much as an hour in Friday afternoon traffic. I've been reluctant to use Hanscom, however, because there aren't enough flight options from the smaller airport. If Shuttle America were to cancel my flight, I might miss an entire day's work trying to travel. Six or seven daily flights by USAirways would completely eliminate my concern and allow me to continue my loyalty to your airline.

Regional expansion is happening and must continue to happen. It's the only way to relieve congestion in the air as well as congestion on the roadways on the East Coast. So far USAirways, with select other airlines, has been a leader in the development of successful regional routes throughout the northeast. For the benefit of business travelers in suburban communities like Metrowest Boston, I urge you to continue your moves into regional airports and I hope that you will resubmit your proposal to fly out of Hanscom Field.

Sincerely,

Brian Hannon

Shuttle America does not fly a jet either on any of their routes. Similar problem exists in Trenton. The residents do not want Southwest Airlines.
