I hear from inside sources that two changes will happen this summer. First, BWI-CLE on Metrojet will be discontinued. Second, US will make BWI-BOS service all Metrojet. I couldn't get exact confirmation of the time frame, but both items should happen this summer.

Say it isn't so! Back to 4-segment trips from DCA... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif
(Wonder if that means Southwest will ratchet up the prices of BWI-CLE when the competition goes away) http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/eek.gif

TribeFlyer, please explain to me why the 4 segment trip from DCA-CLE would not be preferred over the BWI-CLE nonstop anyway? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I heard that MetroJet would be serious cutting back service from BWI. Not just CLE, but slaching the Florida routes to just a couple a day. As for BWI-BOS, I'm surprised this hasn't gone to MetroJet sooner. They are sort of competing with WN as they fly to PVD (BWI-PVD was one of the first MetroJet routes), and pretty much all flying out of BOS except for hubs, mainline, and shuttle is now MetroJet (ie, the Florida flights). Personally, if we do see a major reduction in MJ service BWI-FL, Southwest wins the round.

Actually, Southwest "won the round" in the mid-90's.

US has pulled out of BWI-CLE before, back when it was flown by mainline. Southwest didn't raise fares. Furthermore, Metrojet didn't lead to lower fares in this market, just overcapacity.
And there is competition from Continental.

MetroJet's purpose was never to lower fares. The low fares were already being offered by mainline to compete with Southwest. MJ simply lowered the operating costs to meet the lower fares.

Oh darn it. Right when I achieve elite on US, they cut the BWI flights - yes, they are all coach, but its still the fact that I'll have less choices. Does anybody know if US will change the fare rules? All major airlines run CLE-BWI same-day for around $130, except US. They used to exclusively sell MetroJet on CLE-BWI unless you wanted to pay $700 for CLE-PIT-BWI or similar. Southwests fare sale just came out today, with CLE-BWI running for $30 with no minimum stay. Total with tax for two non-stop flights is $71.50 - no wonder they can't compete.

June 2nd will be the last day for MetroJet on CLE-BWI. I noticed in the fare rules even Y had "Travel by June 2nd" and the schedules were showing PIT or PHL connections for BWI after June 2nd. It will be interesting if US matches the majors (DL, CO, HP, NW) on the $124.00 plus tax same-day return fare. The segments sure would be nice!
