I an airline employee had to do a call back on a schedule change. I was RIPPED TO SHREADS by the passenger who was told that his flight schedule change put him on a F100 plane. He was IRATE-said he didn't want to fly in a small plane-said it only had one row in first class (it had three rows BTW) and maybe it's just me a small plane is a 19 seat express flight not a F100 jet in first class for a 1 hour flight when you are in FIRST CLASS SEAT?

What was the reason for this FT member being so nasty to me on the phone?

I don't work at the airport so I don't know the difference between one aircraft and another and to be honest it doesn't make any difference to me. Then again I don't know the difference between a Ford and a Chevy when I see one on the highway and I don't care about that either.

IMO - the F100 is one of the WORST jet aircraft for 1st class seating. The seat pitch is pathetic and the width is only 18 inches.

I can understand the passenger being upset, but there is no need for him to take it out on you.

Welcome to FlyerTalk.

How did you know that this ill-behaved "induhvidual" was a FlyerTalk member? Most of the FT members know what a Folker 100 is AND we know that it has three rows of first class.

Most of us are also very nice....so if it was one of us, NAME NAMES! And we'll deal with the offender. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Hey Eric-If you have to be on a F100 aircraft is it not better to be in First class than Coach class seat? Just wondering.

Well, yes, FC is slightly better. IMO, however, the best seat in a F100 is on the exit row with an empty seat next to you. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Clearly First Class on any plane is better than economy. It is generally known by US Airways frequent fliers that the F-100 is the least comfortable in First Class of all the planes in US Airways fleet. IMO it isn't any big deal and the F-100's are found mostly on shorter hops anyway. But that being said, I'll go out of my way to book an Airbus or Boeing when I have a choice. Would I ever call and complain if there was an equipment change and I ended up on a F-100? No. That's trivial IMO.

CS74, why do you think the person who called and was irrate was a FlyerTalker?

When I'm flying from here, I actually try to get the F100 flights--but that's because the only alternatives are props : http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

No one should talk to you like this.

BUT ... Not working at the airport is not an excuse for not being familiar with your product. Study up on the aircraft. It will make both you and USAirways shine!

Me thinks that "FT" is "Frequent Traveller" and not "FlyerTalk". In any case, I know that I would be disappointed at an equipment change to an F-100, but not enough to blow up to someone about it...that's just silly.

On some of my short routes, I pray for a 100! The alternative is usually a dash 8 and those are the pits.. but would I call and thrash someone? I can't imagine doing so - if not being on an aircraft is that important to me, I'll change my schedule to get what I want - and I do THAT all the time.

I offer the following observations:

1. The F-100 is a crappy plane. That's one of the reasons Fokker folded.

2. First class seats on the MD 80 are worse.

3. It is an article of faith that the people who pay the least are often the most difficult. Upgrades have come to be viewed as an entitlement by many.

I avoid that plane also. I'd much rather take a 733 or a Beechcraft then the Fokker.

But as pointed out, the MD-80's are worse than the Fokkers ... I came to that realization just last week after flying them back-to-back in First on a trip.

Hello US FTers,

I actually remember flying several times in a US F100 with only one FC row Friday from TYS to CLT in the mid 90s. I make this run frequently and do not remember any such equipment recently.

The FC FA actually went back to help with the beverage service and she left the snack basket with me (the only FC occupant).

I have to agree that the FC seat on the MD-80 is awful. I had the unfortunate pleasure of being seated next to a huge guy who had trouble staying out of my space. Even when he was in the lav, I still felt as though the seat was VERY narrow. I don't even think they had the pull out tray for drinks/nuts in the middle. It was quite a shock coming off a 757 red-eye in F and going to this.

Also, the F-28 had only 1 row of first class, the F-100 always had 2

CS74 -

Let me speak for the rest of us in welcoming you to FT. We will value your opinions and insights into USAirways, so please feel free to chime in and offer any useful info. Likewise, you'll probably learn some things here too. We may even address you directly to clear any misunderstandings!

Can you offer any info as to if there is an 'official' USAirways presence here like there is on other boards(i.e. Starwood_Lurker on the Starwood board)?

One other word of warning - a Customer Service rep from AA got muted by his/her management, so it's best you keep your real identity(email, etc.) anonymous. I don't know how US management feels about employees on these boards, although the AOL message boards for USAirways is swarming with FAs, pilots, mechs, etc.

Nonetheless, you will always be a valued addition to our close-knit community of USAirways customers here!

Back in the USAir days the F 100s definitely had at least two rows of first class seating. I think after Wolf took the left seat all mainline aircraft were reconfigured to allow a minimum of 3 rows (12 seats) in the First Class cabin.

I actually prefer the 100s to the MD80s for some odd reason, not sure why. My big complaint about the 100 is the air condition sucks, especially when sitting on the hot tarmac during a ground hold. My other complain is the lack of a forward lav (IIRC). Fortunately, I almost never have to use such on a flight the length of any F100 flight, but it is annoying to have to go walk through coach to use the lav.

I don't see much of the F100s anymore here in Tampa. They definitely hit PHL and PIT, but I tend to see them in the timetable running out of CLT to many southeast cities that also split with Express service. They also make up a lot of the RDU flights.

Good point on the cans only in the back. If you really need to use one, and you're in First, invariably you can't get back there because of a serving cart in the way. Then there's no console between the seats, so the drinks are all over the place, and those overheads....that crazy design which drops everything down in. Try pulling a heavy bag out in a hurry(as the back of the bus comes charglng at you). The National Chiropracters Association must have donated them to stimulate business.I think the plan is to provide these Cadillac's of the Sky to the famous DC Air, if it ever operates.

Actually, the F-100s are to be sold to American IF the merger goes through, as AA also operates them.

DC Air is to have planes and crews provided by AA if the deal goes.
