I was wondering, with all the talk of the US-UA merger, whether miles on US are redeemable on UA as well as other Star Alliance carriers, especially LH. Could someone let me know if this is possible ?
thanks

As of right now, US Dividend Miles are not redeemable on UA or other *A Carriers.

I think I put my question wrongly - can I accrue miles on US on either my UA or LH frequent flyer programs ?
thanks

Well, no.

Here's the current list of partner airlines with accural or redemption opportunities:

American Airlines
Alitalia
LatinPass
Northwest Airlines
Qantas
Sabena
Swissair

that's it. No */UA/LH opportunities likely to be available until DOJ makes an announcement on the merger - and if UA was certain there'd be a merger, they would have already put some type of reciprocity in place. LH used to have a deal with US in the early '90s, but once US began to compete on flights to FRA with LH, that ended quickly.

US only gives miles for NW flights from US->Asia and Asia->US.

You can take a look at http://www.usairways.com/dividendmiles/earningmiles/flyother.htm for the full details of how you can accrue miles, and http://www.usairways.com/dividendmiles/redeemingmiles/index.htm for details on redeeming miles.
