US Airways is offering discount fares, specially reduced for the introduction of service to Amsterdam on April 11, and Brussels on May 9. Fares for travel originating in the U.S. now are as low as $358 roundtrip in some markets.

As an added incentive, customers can take an additional 5 percent off these already low fares by purchasing tickets online at http://www.usairways.com .

Interesting enough the US website won't let me price a flight to AMS or BRU from SEA via the "flexible" or set date function. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/confused.gif

Famous travelocity limitation. Try using an intermediate point (CLT is good - SEA-PIT-PHL-AMS/BRU-PHL-CLT-PIT-SEA is good for a run).

US Airways will launch daily nonstop widebody service to the Netherlands this evening with the departure of Flight 42 from Philadelphia to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. Amsterdam becomes US Airways' eighth European destination.

The new service will depart Philadelphia at 8:15 p.m., and will arrive in Amsterdam at 10 a.m., the next morning. From Amsterdam, the first flight will depart on April 12 at 12:15 p.m., and will arrive in Philadelphia at 2:55 p.m.

``We are delighted to introduce service today to Amsterdam, an alluring city rich with history and one recognized as a leading European business center and leisure destination,'' said US Airways Chairman Stephen M. Wolf. ``Customers flying from more than 60 cities on the US Airways system now will be able to make convenient flight connections to Amsterdam from our Philadelphia hub.''

The PHL-AMS flight (before it was temporarily suspended) was always very light in Envoy. It's no A330, but hopefully it'll continue to be a good upgrade opportunity for anyone heading to Europe. Plus, Schiphol is a great facility and Holland is a great place to visit.

The PHL-AMS flight was always light PERIOD. You would always see e-saver fares for AMS (even in summer).

Back in Feb., 2 friends of mine and I snagged 3 tickets for May travel from PHL-AMS for $328 RT(all taxes included). With 2 of us Gold Preferred and over 12 seats in Envoy for sale in each direction, I could only get ONE upgrade, so 2 of us waitlisted and will check in early in hopes of clearing a standby. Looks like they're pretty tight on upgrade capacity, despite having light loads. I'll keep my eye on ITN.

Interesting, I purchased a ticket in Feb. and was able to confirm an Envoy seat both ways to/from AMS.

I, too, purchased a ticket for AMS travel back in Feb. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/cool.gif

However, my upgrade to Envoy experience was bittersweet. I was able to upgrade but the only seat available was next to chexfan. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/tongue.gif

My dad flew in Envoy PHL-AMS-PHL back when the service was around, in Mid June. That's pretty much peak travel time btwn US and Europe and he was one of only three or four in Envoy! Talk about great service!

Hope this route does well this time around. When they needed the plane for CLT-LGW, AMS got the axe not only because it was probably the lowest-yielding Transatlantic but also because it was the only US route that had total open skies (i.e., start up again whenever they want).

UA's new ORD-AMS seems to have very good loads (but, as always, high loads doesn't mean lots of revenue and vice versa), so let's hope PHL-AMS does well!

I find that really funny... especially when I can arrange to see how geo1004 likes flying AMS-PHL in 29D on the 762 http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/tongue.gif

Don't forget, last time they flew the route NW/KL had a daily non-stop as well, which was an additional 240 or so seats a day.

Geo1004 and chexfan....

I'm afraid to ask, but when will you be flying PHL-AMS-PHL? I'm out on the 10th, back on the 14th of May.

I was going for the AMS or BRU deal, but found much better pricing and availability just running to FRA.

Yes, it loses the double mile bonus, but thats J, Y and B etc. Was I right to stay with a VE??WN as the bonuses are all B minimum, or will the SWU knock that out?

US Airways will introduce service today between Philadelphia and Brussels, Belgium, the seat of the European Commission and a major center of European commerce and government. Brussels will become US Airways' ninth European destination from Philadelphia.
