US Airways Express to Begin Nonstop Regional Jet Service Between Charlotte and Mobile

Isn't MOB a new city for US??
Anything over 2hrs on a regional or turboprop is too much! I can appreciate the need to cut costs, but where will US draw the line in how far they'll stretch the RJ routes??

CLT - YUL = 810 miles (or something like that, but greater than 800).
For us golds and silvers it wasn't really worth upgrading anyway, so flying on an RJ wouldn't be too bad compared to having to connect ...

They will schedule RJ's wherever they can. Crew costs are a fraction of what the mainline runs. In the case of Montreal, this enables a nonstop route that might not ordinarily be feasible. In other situations, it just plain saves money. These flights are a real sore spot with the mainline pilots, who fear dilution of their jobs, and for that reason, the company is limited by its union agreement with them as to how much of this flying can be perfomed by Express.

Delta has been doing this with RJs for the past 2 years or so. They have a couple routes that are 2 hours, 25 minutes one way. Even though many of us love the CRJs, anything over 90 minutes is too much

Doiee !! Now you tell me !
A week after I booked a YUL-CLT through connections. And I could've gone direct !
Oh well.
However, I'm glad to see US Air being pro-active in establishing new route markets.

No, actually, US used to serve Mobile from Charlotte until 1995 or so (IIRC). Flight times were a bit incovenient (last flight would leave about 3 p.m.). Think the route was slashed in the the pre-Wolfman days - like so many others (e.g. San Antonio). So it's a right-sized return I guess, and means we're not stuck on DL through ATL.
