The most recent news of United Airlines acquisition of US Airways is stale. The only breaking news that I have heard of late, came today, when someone in the House of Representatives apparently went on record as in support of the acquisition.
Any other news out there. Any good websites to watch other than the UA and US websites.
We've had two deadlines for the desision by Dept of Justice come and go. I don't believe another date has been set. Anyway you look at it, it will be a long while. And it will be all over the media when it get announced. As for news sources before the merger happens, none really. There are always stories circulating saying that the merger will definitely happen or it definitely won't, but they are just speculating like everyone else; no inside info really. Just sit and wait and keep your fingers crossed. Write your represetatives in DC if you want to feel like you made a difference, but IMO the difference it will make is to make you think you made a difference. IMHO.

I would have no problem with fewer carriers if competiotn between routes was mandated, so that say, no single carrier could control more than 50% of the flights from A-B.
What kills competition is not the size of any of the airlines, it's the monoploy in these hubs: PIT, PHL, ATL, SLC, DEN, CVG, STL...possibly DFW, and I'm sure a few others I've skipped.
So from BOS, for exampl;e, your only choice to ATL, CVG, or SLC is DL, to PHL or PIT, it's US, etc.
Of course, there's plenty of head to head competition between BOS & NY, now including a new high speed train...and prices don't seem to go anywhee but up. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/confused.gif
